Protein drinks other than shakes

Recommended Posts

I have 1 week left on my liquid post-op diet and I would rather not eat than drink a Protein Shake or eat Soup. I am not milk drinker at all but I have tried to choke down Protein Shakes. At this point, my gag reflexes kick in when I even put a shake or soup to my mouth, My question is does anyone have any suggestions on something to eat/drink that will get me through this last week of liquids. Thanks so much for the advice!

You might try a drink that's kinda like Gatorade. It's called Isopure Protein Drink. They are 20 ounce glass bottles & cost $4.19 @ the Vitamin Shoppe .They go on sale, so watch for it. They are 160 calrories, 40 grams of protein.

They have a ton of flavors. You can get them on line at Amazon also. I tried every one to see what I liked.

I sip on a entire bottle all day. I fill my shaker bottle with ice, add Isopure to dilute & sip all day. My favorite combo is half bottle of blue raspberry then I add crystal light lemonade. So refreshing & can't taste the protein after taste. Another I love which I thought I'd hate , is coconut !!!? Grape frst is another one I like. Go figure?! That's why u need to try them all.Hope this helps.

Isopure is probably your best best, I agree with SheWins1 the grape is probably the best flavor (and I really thought I would like the orange best). Isopure is kind of like Gatorade, but it leaves your mouth with a dry kind of feeling. Sorry it's hard to describe, give it a try GNC also carries it.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info. I am going to the health store today so I will check into Isopure. I am soooo ready to chew something and absolutely can not wait until July 9th when I can start adding food back into my life. In the meantime, Isopure sounds like it might get me through it.

Is there anything that will make the drinks "less sweet", I am having a hard time with them (7 days post op) due to the sweetness.

I can't stand the pre-made shakes. I've been making my own shakes with skim milk, greek yogurt, some instant espresso dissolved in a little warm Water, & a scoop of vanilla Protein Powder. The powder doesn't taste so sweet with the other stuff cutting it & the coffee flavor keeps me happy first thing in the morning. I've also used unflavored Protein powder a couple of times with skim milk & yogurt & a little Mio or Crystal Light mix & that gives me an even less sweet drink.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
