Depends on what you want. You can get most things through Amazon if you know what brands you want. Bariatric Advantage, Unjury, and Syntrax certainly all have their own sites, as well. In the Pre-op and Post-op Diets forum (http://www.verticals...-post-op-diets/) there's a sticky at the top of the forum that discusses where to get Protein foods and samples as well.

I think you are right. So when I go for my pre op and bod pod I will tell her I need other options because I will not be buying their stuff. Any good websites to order off of for Protein shakes' date=' powder and Vitamins??[/quote']

I have found that vitacost.com has a better price than Amazon and the Vitamin shoppe on a couple of these things. I'm fairly new at doing this so I don't have a whole lot or shopping experience...but the for sur had w wide range of the nectar mixes.

Make sure you're aware of what exactly your nutritionist and surgeon want as far as dietary plans go. From what I've read on this site, my plan is very different from the "norm". A lot of people have a two week pre-op clear liquid diet, and I am allowed one meal a day with Protein Shakes as the other two replacement meals. I was also looking for an alternative to the Bariatric Advantage Protein Powder (which is what my NUT recommends and pushes) but I didn't like the taste of it. A lot of members on here suggested Syntrax, which my NUT says I shouldn't be using for shakes because it's too low in Protein. Just see if your nutritionist has a guideline of how many grams of protein/sugar/carbs he/she thinks is ideal for you to have per meal and find your own alternatives to suggest next appointment. This site is very helpful with that, as I've found so far on the beginning of this journey.

Syntax too low in protein? I think your NUT didn't do a real comparison, just looked at a label and assumed.

Syntrax has a serving size that's 1/4 the size of most protein powders. If you take a serving that's comparable in size to other powders (I.e. a full scoop) it has 20 grams of protein for 100 calories, and it's good quality protein (whey isolate or a combination of whey isolate and casein).

I personally, am very aware, of what my dr and ldn want for my dietary needs. Not only did my surgeon suggest that I have it on hand, he gave me a sample of it to try before I bought it. So nice! :)

yes, 20 grams is too low. they want me drinking Protein shakes that are 25-28 grams of protein per shake. she suggested using the Syntrax to mix in with greek yogurt and thing like that. idk, I follow what my nutritionist tells me! so far I've lost a good deal of weight on my pre-op diet so she knows what she's talking about.

Interesting. I've not heard of any NUT requiring that amount of protein per shake. I know that mine suggests a minimum of 17 grams, no more than 6 carbs, with 20-25 being a great place. But you're right - definitely follow what your team recommends, and don't mess with success!

My surgeon and LDN told me to shoot for 60-70 gms/day. So I keep a total. And I get that the one I use is 23 gms (not 20) with some varieties (such as the double stuffed cookie) being as high as 8 gms per one-fourth scoop. Plus this is full of all of the essential amino acids that our bodies need to fuel themselves. (That's where I would be careful-you could get one at Wal-Mart that meets the Protein requirements your team has set, and not realize that it may not have the quality control another product does or have all the nutrients. And I certainly am a wal mart girl myself. I mean...picking one up that has not been recommended, suggested, or approved by your Drs office, just bc the Protein numbers look the same.

Can you open this link? See I just don't get where it's 20...and add it to almond milk adds another gm of protein...so 3 of these a day meets my protein requirement. I'm only on my fourth day of full liquids and I just ordered another tub of this. I should have it by today. (Different flavor that is) and I also ordered a tub of the Isopure unflavored to add into Soups etc. so for me it was best to start out w one and make sure I could tolerate it, like it, etc before I bought others.

Hmmm link may not wk...maybe you can copy it...anyhoo...interesting talk!

my nutritionist gave me a list (thankfully) of what protein powders were okay at all price ranges. but my office also has me starting Vitamins after surgery which I assumed everyone did. so I guess all of the added nutrients and stuff don't matter as much since I'll be on chewable vitamins anyway? I don't know, I just follow what my nutritionist tells me. haha.

I buy Premium Protein premixed shakes from Sam's club. They're 160 calories & 30 grams of protein for an 11oz resealable drink box. I grab one out the fridge on my way to work every morning in lieu if my old coffee habit. Once I finish it I know I'm already halfway to my Protein goal.

I am still on liquids. (Only on day 6, still learning) I can't wait to try a Protein bar! Btw, I want to be clear (er) several rtd's, and powders were recommended to me by my dr, including some from Sams, WM, and Costco...I think a protein bar on the way to work will be a great idea for me as well, and will hopefully replace my urge to drive through McDonald's and get a coke!

I don't know about everyone else but Protein Bars hit bottom like rocks. I can't eat much. They feel soooo heavy. I'd rather have another shake. They're a good replacement when I'm craving a candy bar around that special time of the month.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
