Recommended Posts

I am 23 yrs old and i have two small kids. I want to go through with the procedure im 5'7 and 220 pounds i have struggled bein over weight since i can remember i feel this is the right choice for me to regain my life back i feel trapped in my own body i feel low energy nd i want to do this because i know i will be dedicated to being healthy but i need this i cant do it on my own i want to offer my kids that healthy life style so teu dont go through the same struggles i do nd i want to have that energy to do much more activities with them then i do now The thing that keeps me thinking will i have any complications in the future nd if so will i regret puttin my self in a position where im going to miss out on my kids in the worst case scenario.. I was sleeved by dr almanza, on June 14,2013... doing good .. just know that the surgi type center is very small, older but clean...the hotel was amazingly beautiful. If I were to do it over, I would have paid the extra to be in a full hospital. If you have more questions feel free to pm me

I was sleeved by Dr Quinones. At first I was going with the other doc you mentioned but felt really uneasy. As I did research I realized it was not a good fit for me. My dad wouldn't be allowed to stay with me over night and at times I have shoulder problems where I can't lift myself up. He was so concerned about it and he was right, I did need some help propping myself up to go to the bathroom. I'm so glad I changed doc.'s! I've had no complications and am 7 weeks out and have lost 46 pounds. I beat diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure and my white blood cell count that was pretty high is going down on it's own. If you wanna chat please PM - I don't work for DrQ or anything like that- I'm just very pleased with the results. Do research, ask questions and find what's the best for for you. Good luck on your journey and keep us posted!

I had Almanza. 4 months ago. He was great, I felt safe the whole time, the staff was excellent, and I was never afraid of the surgical center vs. the hospital. Everything went very smoothly and I would not hesitate to recommend him.

I had no issues at all after surgery and I think he did a great job. I have a sleeve that will tolerate anything I put in it and he must have stapled/sewn me up real good on the inside because this thing does not stretch and it does not hold much at all.

A lot of people seem to have doubts or reservations about Almanza, but from my perspective they are unfounded. You will most likely get some links to horror stories or someone will tell you that he is a 'dangerous man'. Not true and if you poke around enough you will find unpleasant stories about most any doctor - foreign or domestic.

It was fine and he will give you exactly what you ask for.

Keep looking. Do not go to dr almanza. He was one of the first doctors that I was considering and in my research I found more complications from his patients than any other...I just kept seeing them over and over. I also have a friend in one of the Facebook support groups that I am a member of that has had serious complications after her surgery with him. Personally I've read very good things about dr quinones...you should check him out.

Hi, to clear things up.. when I had my surgery with Dr A. I never had any compltions, I felt safe and had a very good out come.. I just thought in a more traditional hospital setting. I would of received more one on one time.....it was just kind of small and cramped..

Hi liz89' date=' I also was sleeved by Dr. Quinines on January 12, 2013 and it was the best decision I could have made. Dr. Quinones is a board certified practicing surgeon who only performs 4 surgeries daily. If you look at Dr. Quinones credentials you will see that he is Proctor Certified (which mean he is allowed and has taught many doctors Bariatric surgery, including Dr. Almanza) You spend 2 night at Santa Fe and 1 night at Real Del Rio Hotel. I am going to PM you with my concerns I had with Dr. Almanza and why I decided to have my surgery with Dr. Quinones.[/quote']

Hey how is it going with your sleeve?? My date is getting closer, any tips on what i should pack for my trip?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
