Got a question for all of you out there....I have been banded, as I said, since April, got my first fill end of May. Since I've been reading, it appears that I spent a lot of time in Bandster Heck not feeling any restriction, even after the fill. To date, I have lost about 25 lbs. since the 7th of April. I have been good about not drinking when eating and following the 15 mins before and the 30 mins after rule to wait for any sort of beverage. Have had no issues, other than I think I should be loosing more weight.

However, today, I had a new experience. I am on a business trip, and of course, there is always a "walking" vendor/food dinner reception. I took the plate that was offered to me and began my tour of vendors (and, please don't comment on the type of food I ate, we can deal with that later . On my plate was a small oat/wheat roll with sliced BBQ, to which I added a bit of BBQ Sauce (picture the size of a raquetball for diameter), also had a spoonful of polenta, and three strawberries. All seemed to be going fine. Finished my plate after several walk arounds of the vendors. Then I spotted some sweet potatoes, mashed to the point of almost liquid. The chef handed me a small cup to which I sprinkled a bit of bacon. I took one bite and knew in an instant it was wrong. Ended up in the ladies room, and did what I guess was a PB -- first time. Bad feeling -- was sweating, and felt shaky. Only thing that came up was that bite of sweet potatoes and bacon.

Is it possible that my band has finally settled and there is real restriction, or did I just blow it with the actual food choices?

Hello, I am Barbara from Spokane Washington. I am in the process of selecting a Dr. for my lap band surgery. I have scheduled for june the 24th with Dr. Kuri in Tijuana Mexico. I am scared to death now that I have made the date. I will be going alone, short notice to entice a friend to go with me. I just made the appointment today and if my work approves the time off I will be flying to SanDiego on the 23rd. Be picked up there and taken to the hospital.

Does anyone have any regrets that has had the surgery?

I have about 75 pounds to loose and am both excited and scared.

I am an xray tech and move around large patients and equipment, I am told I will be ready to work the 1st of July. That is just 7 days, what do you all think. Would that be pushing it. I am very healthy and was back to work after my gall bladder was removed in one week.

I am rambling, nervous I guess. I would appreciate any response, answers ect that anyone would like to offer.

Thank you and HI ALL

Barb:crying:

I'd recommend you go to the GENERAL LAPBAND SUPPORT forum thread and post some questions on Mexico, etc. as there are a bunch of bandsters out there who can reassure you. Best wishes.

Welcome Amy. Are you going to the orientation sessions that each program offers to see what you like best about which ones? Riverside, Mt. Carmel and OSU have Columbus bandsters that get together at the Polaris mall and I was attending those informal get togethers before I was banded and it really helped to talk with those who had already been down the path. Good luck in selecting a surgeon and program.

I will probably go with Riverside and Dr. Myers...I really think I need the program for the fitness part.

Besides I had my baby at Riverside and loved it.

I am hoping to be able to go to the next GTG at Polaris.

Hello everybody. My name is Natasha and I live in Dayton. I am just starting on this journey, although 2 years ago I was within weeks of gastric bypass before changing my mind. Basically, I did all the pre-op, had a date, but began losing weight on my own while waiting for my surgery. I went from 240 to 215 or so and felt great.

Fast foward 2 years... I am at 280. I feel like I have done some sort of irreversible damage to my body. I am only 23 years old but do not have the energy or stamina of someone my age. I have tried restricting my intake and working out more frequently, but my weight won't budge (at least it hasn't gotten any higher- yet). Anyway, while I am out of shape, I am not completely inactive. I can easily do 30 minutes of cardio 4-5 times a week, and recently went on a 4 hour hike (casual pace on relative easy terrain).

Hmm... what else... if anyone in the Dayton area would like to reach out to me and share their Lap Band story, please do so. I would especially like to hear about your experiences with insurance, and also how your weight loss has affected your relationships with people.

I would like to introduce myself. I have been married for 26 years, I have no children but have a black lab that is not my kid. I have lived in Columbus for 37 years. I retired from the State of Ohio but I work part time at my church as the Office Administrator.

I have dealt with being overweight and dieting since I was 16 years old and my husband always say I am a great "dieter" but as just as good at being a great "non dieter" too, it seems it is all or nothing for me. The truth is I love food and I love to eat alot and I have tried many diets and spent so much money I could probably be rich by now, but then I heard about the lapband surgery and thought that might be something for me, so I am scheduled for my first class at Mt. Carmel E. in September. I have been reading a few of the threads of those whose experiences seem to be different for each person. I tend to be an emotional eater for most part and I know the lapband probably will not change that but I am hoping it will at least help me to want to stop overeating. I am diabetic, have high blood pressure and have sleep apena and tired all the time. My doctor is all for this surgery but I want to make sure it is for me before making the final decision. I would like to loss 100 pounds and keep it off. I am not one who would go to a message board and tell about me but this is a message board I feel relates to my situation and decided to take a risk here and reach out for support, so I hope to hear from those of you who have gone through this surgery both with success and unsuccess.

Welcome Readytogo! You'll enjoy the good information that they provide at the Mt. Carmel information session on the bariatric options that they hold at Mt. Carmel East. I went to my orientation/free session first part October 2007 and by March 2008 I was banded..about 6 months to get through all the insurance processes.

Check out the thread for the Central Ohio get together at Polaris Mall and you can talk with folks who went to Mt. Carmel, Riverside, and OSU in person in an informal setting. Good luck!

My name is Debbie and I am from the Warren County area. Started this process in February at Springboro with Dr. Schofield. Missed a follow up due to personal reasons and they made me start the 3 month diet tracking from the beginning. YEAH! Anyway I was finally three weeks from completing the 3 month tracking when I found out the Center was closing. Luckily Dr. Teel from Miami Valley agreed to accept everything done at Springboro and sent the paperwork to Aetna. Just found out on the 29th (my birthday) that I was approved and now have a Surgery date for September 9th.

The only problem now is I feel that I might be missing out on somethings they start with their patients or inform their patients that I missed by starting in Springboro.

Also I am now catching myself eating more than normal because I might not be able to eat it ever again...

I am excited, happy, but also scared, and nervous. Any words of wisdom?

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kim and I was banded on Tuesday, July 29th. I am so excited. I have been struggling with my weight most of my adult life and it has done horrible things to my body. I have been ill and in and out of the hospital for several different things over the last five years. I have just decided I was fed up with being fat and not being able to enjoy my life.

I look forward to getting to know other band patients.

Hi everyone. I'm Rhonda, live in Columbus. I've been overweight all my adult life. I have not been to my first meeting yet, it's next Tuesday evening at OSU. My doctor highly recommends them. I've been thinking about wanting to do something about my weight the last couple of years, but hings have been a little too crazy here for me. I had to wait until things settled down a bit. Now I can do something for myself that I want to do. :biggrin2:

I've been researching online while waiting for my meeting. I'm so glad I found this site. I've learned a lot here and that's a good thing for a procedure like this....going in well informed and prepared. :biggrin2:

Looking forward to getting to know everyone here. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
