I have heard that NSAIDs are ok to take with the sleeve has anyone heard this too?

My plan allows them. If I take NSAID, I am to also take PPI.

Believe it or not, I just got the "OK" from my doctor to take them, I asked specifically about Fiorinol and Naproxen. Three years ago when I had surgery, these two, among a host of others were on the 'do not use' list, but I'd heard some things had been changed/updated since then. I went for my three year check up this past Friday, and I asked! I did NOT ask at what point it is ok though, I didn't think of it.

My surgeon puts NSAIDs on his "never ever EVER after surgery" list. Like most things about bariatric surgery, your bariatric team might have their own restrictions/rules. I wish my surgeon would change his mind; I don't see how I'm going to get through life NEVER taking a single ibuprofen tablet from now to the grave!

We have the same surgeon and I have been taking Motrin since the beginning and its not on the do not list in my binder

What is PPI?

PPI is Proton pump inhibitor, such as Omeprazole, that reduce stomach acid.

I have to wait two months post op...that was one thing that my surgeon explained that with the bypass you can't but sleeve you can.

I had asked Dr. Davidson about NSAIDs at my appointment and he never really answered me. He basically just said maybe I won't need them when I lose weight (I have RA, though). I guess I need to go back and specifically ask him about those two (I had specifically asked about ibuprofen/motrin)

I'm encouraged and confused by that, Starr--there's a mixed message going out, for sure. I see Dr. K tomorrow afternoon, if he holds still long enough for me to ask him, I'll try to get a direct answer about it--but at least I know it *is* possible to take Motrin and not keel over! Thank you!

Did he tell you how much of your stomach he is taking out. I keep forgetting to ask him when I see him. I'm curious if its the same for everyone. I see him for my 9 month in a few weeks I'm gonna make a list Lol

Advil was on my "yes" list when I left the hospital. Go figure!

Okay--got the straight facts from my surgeon on Wednesday. I asked if NSAIDS were gone from my life forever, and I was told "only for the first month"! That directly goes against what one of his nurses told a whole classful of pre-sleevers a week before at the Nurse Education Seminar. She actually handed out a flier that named a whole TON of NSAIDS, and the heading clearly said "Never to Be Used after Surgery"! Apparently that is appropriate information for Roux-en-Y patients but not for sleevers.

I was told that the nurse in question is new, and would be instructed not to give that incorrect info out any more. Whew! I feel better knowing my Motrin/Advil will still be around when I need 'em a little ways down the road!

My surgeon said that you can return to your normal meds after the stomach has healed. Just watch out for signs of ulcers.
