Recommended Posts

My son is graduating from preschool And it is special treat to take him out for dinner and I'm just wondering What would be the best thing to do or to order three weeks post op on mushy food? ? Help I am so nervous!

I am not a huge Soup fan and can't do the cream very well and a lot of Soups in restaurants have cream in them. Maybe Chili if the restaurant has it?

Chili might be a stretch at 3 weeks.

What does your post-op diet allow you to have at 3 weeks? I was able to have soft fish and well-cooked veggies at that point. Also, mashed potatoes were allowed for me at that point.

Chili can have a lot of fat. You certainly don't want the dinner celebration to turn into a dumping syndrome nightmare. You need to ask for nutrition guidelines at the restaurant if they are available, before heading to dinner. If you can't find something suitable, get your son the dinner he wants and sip Water. Better than sabotaging yourself or getting sick at this stage.

Not sure that I would do chili 3 weeks out - I'm cleared for that in week 5. I'm at the same place as you and my Dr. allows baked white fish provided it's very moist and mushy veggies. Small bites and chew, chew, chew. Hate to repeat what's already been said but most Soups are a good choice too provided they don't have big pieces of meat or crunchy stuff. Good luck!

Three weeks and you can't do Soup? I'd say a tall glass of Water and enjoy the company. It's a good reminder that not all celebrations need to be centered around food.

Why not start a new tradition and change it up this time around? Mini golf? Bowling? A bounce house place?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
