Dr won't do the lapband to sleeve revision because lapband is eroded

Recommended Posts

Aloha,

I am in San Diego tomorrow and going to Mexico tomorrow for my sleeve. I've had the lapband for 6 years now. I was told that I have to do a test in the morning first to make sure my band hasn't eroded. If it has they won't do the revision. I am very nervous. I had an upper GI endoscopy 2 months ago and my GI doctor from Utah didn't see that my band was eroded. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, was there symptoms?

Mine hadn't eroded, but it had slipped almost completely to the bottom of my stomach. I had to have it taken out in one surgery, let my stomach heal for awhile, then had the sleeve done 11 weeks later.

Good luck tomorrow with your test. I hope all is well and you're able to have the Sleeve surgery. Please keep us posted.

no erosion here. I also had very minimal adhesions.

I had an unfill about a month before my revision to let my tummy relax from any irritation as well.

Good luck, but it is very important and your dr is correct in his reasoning. You have a good surgeon. Some people have symptoms and some don't so it's a toss up if your eroding or not

Im terrified of waaking up in recovery being told I have no sleeve. My drs plan is to do it all at once, but I know he can't guarantee that. I hope so cuz I can't afford sleev plcmt without insurance and insurance wont pay for a 2nd surgery since my bmi is 28. Im pretty much screwed if he cants do it at once. My band Is herniated, not sure how much damagge it can do in 3 mths time.

Please send positive thoughts my way...

Congratulations Paradise Mom! I'm so glad everything worked out for you.

Good Luck Marfar. When is your revision surgery? I'm sending good thoughts your way.

I'm scheduled for revision surgery on June 26... I'm hoping for one surgery as well.

My insurance told me they would pay for the band removal but not the sleeve unless I did it in one surgery. My surgeon wouldn't do it in one surgery due to the increase in complication. So I had my band removed and than fought the insurance to pay for the sleeve as the band removal was medical need. I did get them to pay even with the once in a lifetime WLS policy. I did have to be back up to a bmi of 35 with co-morbs first.

My revision is July 16th. I'm praying that they can do it all at once. Otherwise my insurance won't pay for it (my bmi is only 28). And I can't pay that much cash, even for Mexico.

Thanks for thinking of me!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
