Size 16 for some stores is the highest they go, some 18.

Ok, I have a crazy question-what is a "normal" size. Meaning what is a size that you can pretty much buy in any store? I am pre-op and honestly know I can do this in terms of losing the weight, but I never feel like I will be shopping for "normal" clothes. I just keep praying that I will make it there! I have NEVER been able to shop in a store that doesn't have plus size clothes, so I have no idea what sizes the normal stores have!

Size 16 and under are considered "Normal Size". However, some plus stores such as Ashley Stewart starts at a Size 12.

I recently had to buy all new clothes at Torrid and Forever 21(jeans are 16 bucks!!!). I've gone from a size 24 to a size 16. I started freaking out when I realized that pretty soon I won't fit into Torrid sizes at all...it's like where the heck am I supposed to find cute flattering clothes? It's a brand new world...I'm not prepared for the transition from plus size to "normal" size.

Congrats on shrinking! I love torrid. I always buy boots from them.

I have read so many people say you start dropping sizes quickly. About when does that happen?? I am only 4 weeks out but I haven't really gone down a size yet. My clothes don't fit as tight as they did before, but still able to wear all my clothes. Just curious about when this started happening for people. I can't wait for my clothes to be falling off of me, but right now that feels like a distant dream.

Since I have been every size over the years, I've kept the nice clothes in variety of sizes. Everyone tells me to go shopping & I say "I'm shopping in my own closet for now". I can't shake the "tricks" to hiding your weight when buying clothes . . You all know what I'm talking about . . The big linen shirts over a tank & yoga pants to camouflage the rolls . . Ha, ha. It's been hard to actually look at shorts & other clothes. BUT boy is it great when you realize . . Life is going to be different now :)

I would wait to purchase clothes. My younger sis lost a lot of weight recently (no sleeve or surgery) and she gave me her clothes several pieces were to small I was so excited. They as my post-op goal clothes. As suggested I would shop from the clearance racks.

I sew, so I plan to alter some of my clothes but not all. I won't have time working full time. I have a co-worker that had the sleeve done a year ago and has offered me some of her clothes. I'll see.

Continued success everyone. I'm counting the days until I'm sleeved 7/22/13!!!!!!!

Thank you for the suggestion. After the sleeve did you have issue with changing your shopping mindset from plus sizes to normal sizes?

I'm afraid to try on smaller sizes. Even though my clothes are bagging and falling off it scares me so much to try a smaller size.

Ditto that. I think for me it's got to be where I carry my weight. I'm a pear shape. Hips and butt making it harder to get things over them. And when I do it's loose in the waist and fitted at my hips/butt.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
