Scared to move on to next phase?

Recommended Posts

Anyone else dealt with fear transitioning to the next food phase post op? I have had no problem with the liquid phase and really don't desire anything more at this point. I'm allowed to start soft foods tomorrow but I find myself really nervous about it. With the liquid phase I haven't really felt the restriction yet but I have measured everything to make sure I don't overdo it. Maybe it's fear of the unknown? Maybe fear of failure? I don't know...just curious if anyone can relate?

Moving on to soft/puréed wasn't too successful for me the first week. I am into week two of it now and I can eat sometimes, but liquids are still better. Restriction doesn't happen until food happens, so don't worry yet!

Try one food at a time. I was most successful with really soft scrambled eggs and thin mashed potatoes.

I did eat 1/3 of a crab cake last night! Huge food victory for me.

Take your time and move slowly. :)

If you don't feel ready to progress to the next stage then don't. I took a couple of extra days at a few of the phases because I knew I wasn't ready. When I did progress I took it slowly and did fine. Don't rush it, you will have the rest of your life to eat all foods.

I think it is very common to feel that way. I remember being apprehensive about moving on to the next phase that somehow I would be the only person in the world that wouldn't lose weight if I did. LOL! Take it slow, but follow your doctor and NUTs recommendations, it works! I am 8 months out and just upped my calories in the last month and I am still nervous about it, that it will stall my weight loss but I am actually finding the opposite, now that I have upped the calories (and the exercise) I am still losing at a steady pace.

So don't let your mind psych you out. Take your time transitioning, but transition. You will do great!

I cant say that I was scared...I have done extremely well on the pureed/mushy food stage. Have not been ill yet....that being said I would be more afraid of going on to real foods 2 weeks from now.

I am supposed to start puréed and soft foods tomorrow too. Totally afraid of what will happen, barf, choke, blow stitches. I'm a little high strung though; I was afraid to try yogurt and it turned out to be a non-event.

I just started full liquids today jumped right into it and I have to say no problem with lean body chocolate Protein shake! The hard part is sipping it and calculating how many protein grams per ounces... I made up a sheet that has numbers on it stating one through 70 for protein and one through 70 for liquid intake and I mark off every ounce or every gram of protein i take each today to keep track of those amounts

Because of my history with the band I didnt want to go to the next stage either. I felt like I was doing fine right here and I didn't want to push my luck. I was so afraid of vomiting like with the band and I didn't want to go there with the sleeve, but it's different and everything went very smoothly Just listen to your sleeve. It will tell you what's up.

I was initially afraid to move to the soft food stage but eased myself into. I went from 3 Protein shakes to 2 Protein Shakes with 1 soft meal to 2 soft meals with 1 shake or yogurt. I still struggle with eating 3 meals but won't snack because I am afraid it will hamper my weight loss. I did slip a couple times when I hit a stall or wasn't losing as fast as I wanted. When that happened, I went back to 3 shakes or yogurts only again and then had to wean myself off to eat again. This is something I think I may struggle with for awhile.

FYI... Made a bunch of mushy goop tonight in prep for tomorrow. Cheated and had a tiny taste of each, I survived.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
