Hi,

I was banded 7/23/04 by Dr Rodriquez in Acuna. All went perfect. Dr Rod was the best dr that I have been to in a long time. He also answers his cel phone (which he gives you the number at his office and cel) I had called him and asked questions and e-mailed him both before surgery. He responded with a reply right away. He has an excellent bed side manner. He is kind and caring. I would go to him again in a heart beat. As for the hospital and the nurses and care I got there, I could have not asked for any better. Barbara ia an Angel. She is right there by your side if you need anything and walks you through everything. In a whole I had an excellent experience and I am home doing great.

I am now on my journey to a new life and a new me.

Thank you all for your posts, I read them all and have learned alot from you.

Hi Lucy!

I was banded on the 19th and we are at the same weight right now! How tall are you? I'm 5'51/2". It's amazing how everyday we feel so much better, isn't it! I too had a great surgeon, and a great hospital experience!

Tina, a heating pad and some liquid tylenol take care of those incisions!

Take care ladies!

Hi Lucy,

Having a doctor THAT available is almost unheard of. You are very blessed to have found him. Where in Texas is he located?

Good luck with you new journey!

Hi Lucy

Congratulations to you. Being banded is the best decision I have ever made for myself. You are one of the lucky ones to have a doctor who answers his cell phone..I have the same thing in my doctor, once I called him and he was at dinner with his family in a Mexican restaraunt where I could here the mariachis playing in the background and he was kind enough to take my call and answer my questions. You don't get that here in the US with the doctors that is for sure! This is a great support board, everyone here is so friendly and supportive you will enjoy it here!

Good Luck to you

Tina good luck on you banding on Friday. You will do fine. I was scared but now I look back and there was nothing to be scared of.

Debra I am 5'6 about the same height. The sugar free Jello is not that bad. I have gotten use to it. The only problem I have is keeping the boys out of the stuff I am suppose to be drinking/eating..lol they want it.

Paula Yes I am blessed to have such a good Dr. I e-mailed him this morning and asked him one question and under 10 min he had answered me. I know this won't be this quick all the time he will be in surgery etc.

Michelle and you all thank you for the kind words. This is a great board with friendly people.

Thanks

LucyM

Hi,

I want to thank you all for the wonderful replies to my post. Today is day 9 and I am on liquids still and doing great. I did weigh this morning and have lost a considerable amount of weight which most was Water. I was swollen and full of it but not now sence surgery.

I feel great and am excired about losing the inches and the weight. I have a long way to go and I will take it one step at a time. But I AM EXCITED. Thanks to all of you for your posts and encouragement. You all are wonderful. I would not have had the band surgery if it were not for you all. I read the posts everyday.

Thank you ALL

Lucy

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
