Nope. I have an IUD so I won't have a period because I am anemic and used to pass out from heavy bleeding. I started my preop about a month before surgery and I am almost three weeks post op now.

I have been on the rag on and off for almost six weeks now. It's never ending. The doc, np and my gyno all say this is normal and will level off. Good news? Uhmmm... Yeah, I got nothin. Periods suck.

Ask your GYN about ablation procedure. Fixed my heavy periods. I don't have them anymore. Should hit the big M before they come back. As long as you are done birthin babies and you have heavy periods, your doc will probalby do it.

Best thing I did in my 40's.

Sleeve is best thing I have done thus far in my 50's!

No way! That hurts, doesn't it? My mirena solved all my problems till this. I am not having any more as they could cause my brain tuhma to grow back, but ain't no one stripping out my innards any more than they've been stripped so far. Too chicken, here!

Ok so I am on mirana too and some people have no periods with it but lucky me I still do but they are short and light.... However my first after surgery was very heavy and longer and even got cramps. Sounds like surgery can change our periods? My cousin got sleeved 4 months ago and hers are all crazy now with blood clots so weird and not sure what causes it.

Don't worry about your period before, during, or after surgery. Docs don't care and neither do the staff. They've all been there done that.. No biggy.. So relax

Just the extreme weight loss changes it...I am on mirena too and didn't get my period for years until last week (my first week post op) it was because of my quick weightloss

Totallyyyyyyy off topic, but those of you with more a or any other iud, do you like it? I'm on nuvaring and loveeeee it, but I'm looking for a more permanent option. I know I'm done having kids, but too young to tie my tubes.

I love mirena. .. no side effects really for me because the hormones are centralized. I haven't had kids yet so its a good choice regardless of what stage of life your in.

It is so easy. The whole procedure takes less than 5 minutes. They basically burn via several ways your uterine lining. You will have cramps that night. They will give you meds for it and the next day you will feel fine.

I was having periods that lasted 8-9 days. Have a week or so off and then start over again.

It has made such a positive impact in my life. Not only are the cramps mostly gone, they used to double me over. Most of the PMS symptoms are gone too.

Hi, I had Mirena in for a couple of years but due to fibroids that caused extremely heavy bleeding and clotting, I expelled it. (Not a pleasant experience, horrible cramping.). Then my doc put in Essure. It's these little coils that go in your tubes. Then after that I had a uterine ablation. It's been two years since that procedure, I spot for a day or two monthly. It's awesome!

By the way, I'm just starting this sleeve journey. I'm going through all the preop items/appointments. Have been lurking and learning loads from all of you for the last month or so.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
