I'm a sushi, and sashimi addict. I could eat it all week. Is this going to be a problem after surgery?? I know the first stage of course I can't but later on. I'm just curious. I'm still going forward with the surgery no matter what.

I eat sushi all of the time! I waited until a coupke months. I eat sashimi mostly, but if i order a roll, i can only eat about half. At first 1/4.

I ate sashimi about a month out. I didn't eat rice until about 6 months out, and then I didn't eat much. It did not sit well at first. Now I enjoy sushi, but I often leave part of the rice uneaten.

You'll have to wait until you get to regular foods (phase 4), after the mushies and soft foods. Mine is after 4 weeks, but every doctor/NUT has a different plan. I would specifically ask your surgeon, since it is an important food for you. Now, the rice attached to some of the sushi - I would wait quite a while before I ate that, but that's just me. Even when your doctor OKs a food still take it very slow (take one very small bite and wait) to see how your body will react to it. Oh, and you have to chew the heck out of it before swallowing.

I love sushi too and can tolerate it no problem but I can only eat 3 pieces and Im STUFFED. Normally my bill at my favorite sushi place is only $1.25 because during the week they have specials and luckily the plate only has 3 pieces. Im a cheap date for sure :) This is the only food that I wish I could fit more of in my teeny tiny tummy but my weight loss, the new clothes, the energy and the health completely outweigh my wish to overeat sushi.

I'm a sushi fan, too. Glad to know that post-op, I'll still be able to indulge! What's your favorite sashimi or roll? I love tuna sashimi, and tobiko maki rolls (the ones with fish roe on top), as well as the smoked eel rolls.

Now I'm craving sushi...

I love spicy tuna rolls if i order a roll or a philly roll. and my fav sushi chef knows about my surgery, so she uses less rice when she makes my roll. And when i order sashimi she cuts it into bite size pieces ;) I am almost 10 months post op. my favorite sashimi is a mix of salmon and tuna. when i order sashimi the amount she makes me equals 3 1/2 ounces. I usually have a few bite size pieces left over that my husband gets (he doesnt mind!)

i still weigh my food religiously ;)

And when i order a roll, made with less rice, it is cut into 8 pieces and i can only eat 3-4.

I had it once about 6 months out and it was sooo good. I stuck with sashimi and no rice.

I have been eating sashimi since being cleared for all foods, it's what we as a family will eat if we go out. The "sake" (salmon) sashimi is my favorite I like it with tons of wasabi :D

I ate two pieces of my wife's eel avocado roll and didn't have any issues but won't repeat due the carbs in rice. I have never been a big fan of sashimi but will have to learn to deal with it moving forward should the urge for sushi strike.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
