While reading this, it occurred to me that people would think it extremely rude and inappropriate to jog up alongside a marathon runner during the race with comments like these:

"Hey, how far have you run so far? Really? Wow, you still have a long way to go, huh? I woulda thought you'd have run a lot further by now. My mom drives 26 miles to work every day and it only takes her half an hour, I wonder why you're not making as much progress as my mom. Are you sure you made the right choice to run this race? Maybe you should try driving instead; I hear running can be dangerous, I know of people who got really badly hurt when running..."

It sounds crazy, but people think nothing of making similar comments to someone who's trying to lose weight, especially when they find out we're choosing WLS to get the job done. We're in a marathon, too, and it's not helpful to criticize or be negative.

Miss Manners once said that a good response to nosey folks is "Why do you ask?" but I really like Hathery's option!

Brandy, consider the source here. Are these unconditionally loving, affirming, caring, unselfish people?? Oh, there not? Well then, why the *heck* would you give these people the power to define you?? If you were going to pick a human being to define your worth and value -- how about picking someone like Mother Theresa? For me, I don't let *any* human being define me -- only Jesus -- and He is crazy about me!!

God is proud of you Brandy!

warmly,

WeeWers

Brandy, My father inlaw use to pick on me to the point I didn't even want to eat or do holidays with them. Then when I told my inlaws my choice for weight loss surgery all i heard was that's just a waste of money it's not gonna work you just need to push your self away from the table. It got to the point I didn't want to go over there at all. A week before the surgery he even asked my husband why he wanted to waste money like that on a surgery that isn't going to work. I am 9 days post op and I have not seen them since 2 weeks before my surgery. I am down 26 pounds I didn't let him and his crude rude comments get the best of me. Hold your head up and anytime you are feeling down come to the forum we are here for one another :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
