SO Annoying! Anyone else share my frustration?

Recommended Posts

I went out to dinner with my boyfriend today (this is not the frustrating part, lol). He ordered half a dozen garlic rolls smothered in butter, rib rolls, full rack of ribs, and a brownie sundae. Oh, and 4 refills of his coke.

I had half of a mahi sandwich without the bread and maybe a tablespoon of black Beans.

Since I was done much earlier than him, I sat there and essentially watched him eat. At one point, just as a morsel of BBQ Sauce started dripping down the side of his mouth, I felt a really strong urge to smack the ribs out of his hand and yell SSSTOOOOPPPPP EATINGGGGGG!!!! I mean, seriously. He INHALES his food. I could swear that sometimes he doesn't even chew it. It's really unattractive to see him eat so much. Does anyone else feel this way? Am I a horrible girlfriend? Lol

Oh, and as I write this, he just went to the kitchen for a "tiny snack". Smh

I know he doesn't order so much delicious food on purpose. He's a big guy (6'3" and maybe 220lbs) so I understand he won't be satisfied with a Caesar salad. But c'mon.

Let me say one more thing: I have no desire to eat any of the stuff that he ordered. I was perfectly happy with my sandwich. but ordering and eating all that food?? Does anybody else get frustrated/annoyed/disgusted when watching people eat unhealthy food? Is it just me?

OMG I can so relate. The worst part is when I KNOW he's not still hungry. Sometimes I'll just pointedly look at him and ask him if he's hungry and he'll look guilty and put the plate down. I don't mean to be b****y, but the deal was that we were doing this together (me via VSG and him via ketosis) so I feel like if he can complain about what I eat, it's reasonable to point out he's eating way more than he needs to!!

Yes!! Totally annoying... But the part that gets me is realizing I used to eat like that!!! I feel too guilty to call anyone out on it :/

I know how you feel. I find myself being the food police. When I see someone in my family get a huge plate of food I'm grossed out and want to say something to them but I don't. I didn't like anyone saying stuff about my eating habits before the sleeve so I just keep my comments to myself. God it's hard though!

We are the ones that decided to go thru this...not him. We have to try NOT to judge other people in how or how much they eat. Just take your time....eat over at least twenty minutes , put your fork down between bites and enjoy the food....not the scenery. :) It is amazing that we used to eat that much too.

What is a rib roll?

Oh my goodness. It's like heaven on a plate. Its a deep fried homemade eggroll mized with onion and baby back rib meat, pulled pork, cheddar cheese and bbq sauce..

So so so good.

I know my sleeve is working because that sounds horrific. Now if I had known about these two weeks ago, I'd be singing a different tune...

I started watching what other people ate when I started my pre op. It amazed me to see how my skinny friends ate vs. my fellow chubs. Never noticed before because I was so busy shoveling it in.

It really doesn't gross me out but it does make me feel sad for them. One wants the surgery and her insurance doesn't cover it. Another wants to want to do it but I not think she will. I hope they never feel as if I am judging them because I am not. I have no doubt I would be eating the same way if I had not had this surgery and that scares me. I feel very blessed to have insurance that would pay, a support group behind me and the courage to make the plunge.

I had these feelings in the past when I'd focus on my own eating... this time around I'm much more relaxed about things. My BF is a little guy 5'6" 140 pounds... he eats like a horse doesn't bother me a bit. It does bother me sometimes when I see someone who is obese eating massive amounts of unhealthy food.. but in a sad way, not in a "want to slap the food out of their hands" way... Now when I watch an episode of Man-vs-Food.. I feel disgusted to watch people eat those massive quantities and see how miserable they are on the verge of vomiting...

The only time I've been on the verge of slapping food out of someone's hand was when I was two days preop and on my first second day of clears... I was on the train from phila to Massachusetts and the lady behind me was eating a family size bag of Doritos for the ENTIRE train ride.. I'd hear her put it away.. then 5 minutes later I'd hear the bag again.. then crunch crunch crunch then I'd smell the chips... wash-rinse-repeat for SIX HOURS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
