Ok I need a little help. I am having rapid weight loss. Averaging about 3 1/2 pounds a day the past three days. I am only 5 days post op. I know about the weight you gain in the hospital due to the amount of fluids that you are given. I weighed myself when I got home (of course) and had only gained 3 1/2 pounds since day of surgery weight. Now I am down 14 lbs. from surgery day weight. I guess it is just a little scary. Is this normal??

I'm thinking it's good too! Down 17lbs in 11 days since surgery (to be fair, I think your discarded stomach weighs about 4lbs) and 24lbs since starting pre op on May 1st. The faster it's gone, the happier I will be!! Way to go!!! Let's do this!!

I have lost 11 pounds in the 4 days I have been home from the hospital. I think everyone is different, but losing quickly right after surgery seems to be common.

I've experienced the same thing. I did NOT gain weight from fluids in the hospital. I was in the hospi 2 nights and 3 days and when I came home I was 9lbs down. When I weighed after surgery I was 3lbs down. I am having a difficult time with gas, bloating, discomfort and fullness, yet I can't hardly keep anything down and I have diarrhea too. I'm worried about getting dehydrated but not worried about rapid weight loss. Doc said people who are nauseated and discomforted after surgery tolerate food best later on down the road and lose the most weight.

This happened to me exactly. Then in week two. Nothing. Nada. Waiting for it to break

I lost 13pound the first week post surgery and now I'm 3 weeks post and I still haven't lost anymore :(

What's going on? I didn't think it would just stop?!?!?

K8ee... I am two weeks post op and lost 14lbs and nothing more. 13 was from week 1. I was freaking out a little myself.

Thanks everyone for the information. I guess when you try year after year to lose weight and then it just starts falling off you think "this can't be right".

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
