$25000 Surgery Cost, what did you pay?

Recommended Posts

Iam so confused of what I will end up paying? My out of pocket has been satisfied of $1,000. But then the insurance will cover 90%. So, will I have to pay 10% of the total of the surgery? What was the $1,000 decutible for? Can anyone help me understand this? thanks in advance!

If your policy has a max out of pocket of $1K the. You will pay $1K plus any co-pays.

I have already paid that for the sleep study I was required to get. No co-pays and I already met my out of pocket max and deductible and everything is covered at 100% after that.

I went to Mexico and paid $4749. That included everything but airfare. Including hotel, meals, meds, transportation while in TJ and from and back to San Diego. And this surgeon did 13 the day I had mine and 14 the next day. I would do it again in a heart beat. 9 weeks out and 40lbs down.

My Insurance is really weird. The surgery was 44K. The negotiated price to my insurance company was 22K. That is not including all of the other pre-op appointments I had. I have money that was set aside to meet my 3K deductable, that was paid. But even after the deductable I still have to pay 4K for co-insurance. Ughhhhhh

I tired over and over again for the insurance company and the Dr. Office to tell me how much I would expect to pay out of pocket. They would not give me any information I was thinking maybe an additional 1,500 for co insurance I had NO IDEA it would be over 4K plus the 3K I paid for my deductable.

And yes I work for a MAJOR corporation with stinky health coverage, but at least they paid most of it!!

My total bill was $31,900. I ended up only paying $900. I was so happy thought I was going to pay a lot more.

My surgery is scheduled for next week and they billing department informed the hospital stay alone is $13,000. I have not received any word on the doctor's bill yet. I had a $500 deductible (already met) and my co-insurance is $2,300. I believe my doctors bill will be covered at 100% because my out of pocket maximum is $2,500. It is insane the hospital charges for 1 day is $13,000. That is several 7 day vacations for.

of course they are going to jack the price up if you have insurance .. thats how they make money.

Im glad I paid cash for mine and it was done in the states for $12,000

$7900 to hospital

$3100 to Dr

$1000 to anesthesiologist

2 weeks out, 21 lbs down and 21 1/2" gone!

$47,000 for the surgery and 2 nights in the hospital. I paid $150 copay (should be another 150 if the hospital gets their butt in gear) and then $100 for the doctor.

EOB said $33,000+ including anesthesia and one day hospital stay. All but $14,000+ was written off for plan contract. My out of pocket is $1500.

I added up all of the claims on my insurance website that were related to my surgery (hospital' date=' surgeon, anesthesiologist, pathologist) and not counting any of my pre-op visits, I was right around the 40k mark. I am also in Fairfield County, CT where everything is expensive... Thankfully my insurance covered 100% after my 3000 deductible.[/quote']

So true about Fairfield County. I grew up in Stamford. Had to leave the area. It was just too expensive.

I paid 16,500. I believe it should have been more (somewhere around 22,000) but since I paid in full, they charged me the reduced price.

5500 went to the surgeon

16 went to the hospital

Plus I got dibs on what time I wanted to go in to surgery :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
