Hi! I just had my surgery(sleeve)Tuesday. My husband had his done last month. He is already down 40pounds! Im so proud of him, and cant wait to start having some of the same results (although much slower lol) I'm really looking for any tips that I can pass along to him as well as myself. I teach 4th grade and we own a crawfish boil n go that we run together after our day jobs. Today I returned to work (both jobs) and I was moving very slow to say the least. I'm really excited to read and learn about all of your amazing stories and I appreciate any advice you can give me. Oh, I also have 10 &4 year old boys, so if anyone has any advice or warnings....

I pray the worst is behind me, but if there is anything you can help me prepare for that would be awesome!!

Tara

Oh! I completely forgot to tell y'all the craziest part of my journey... About 8 years ago, my sister in law had the gastric by-pass done. She had some other health conditions and by some crazy and unfortunate accident she passed away. Needless to say, my family was not all that excited when I told them I was entertaining the thought of having the sleeve done. Like I said above... My husband just did it and he has had wonderful experiences. I was all set to go, my family had come to terms with it, and I was about to start my pre-op liquid diet when I got a phone call from the dr's office. They informed me that my insurance no longer covered the procedure as of May 1. I was so upset. I cried for 2 days. I didn't know how I was supposed to loose this weight now. I have tried it ALL and it never lasted long if it ever did work. I made phone calls to everyone involved trying to get them to change their minds... I was pre-approved!!! How could they do that to me??? A few days later my dr's office called and said that my insurance company was in the process of reviewing all of those who were pre-approved already and my surgery was back on! I can't explain how amazing it was to hear those words. I'm a big believer in "all things happen for a reason" and to be honest, I was really scared to have this surgery before. I needed the support of my family and it was hard for them...until they saw how much it meant to me when I was told no. I no longer dread my future or the scale. I look forward to tomorrow and I finally feel in control!!

Sorry if its a little long, It's all still really new

Congrats on your successful surgery! My husband was sleeved in October 2012 and then i got mine in March, it's been an amazing journey and we've really been able to help each other out and keep the other on track. It's a great partnership. My only advice is to make sure ( once you are at the soft food stage) to chew very well and eat slowly!! At 2 months out i still have trouble with this from time to time, like today. I ate to fast and threw it up. Doesn't happen as much now but it still does. So my best advice to you both is to eat S-l-o-w!!! Oh and don't let yourself get dehydrated, trust me, it's not fun!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
