Anyone Turned Down for Surgery When They Get to Mexico?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering....Does anyone know of someone being turned down for surgery once they are in Mexico? I was reading the contract the coordinator sent and it says that they are not responsible for airfare if you are turned down once in Mexico. I was a little concerned if that is an issue very often. I think I probably am just anxious and don't want anything to go wrong.

Yes, there are. Just like drs here in the states, the drs there are not going to do a procedure on someone that is a risk. If I would have gone down prior to completing my 18 month healing period they would have told me no. Thank God!

If you're healthy you don't need to worry

This is a good example.

So as I was leaving on this past sunday (5/12) , they just had a 600 lb man come in for surgery, which is scheduled for today (ironically)

.

His wife (who I thought was also a candidate and was eating Chinese food in front of her poor husband) said that they (Dr Fernando Garcia's Team) required him to be in the hospital five days before surgery so they could monitor him and he would be on a medically induced diet.

I would think that if they are going to turn you down it is because either an underlying health issue (heart, etc) came up OR a person was dishonest on their forms they filled out and they got caught.

I worried about the same thing, I have elevated liver enzymes and was concerned they would get in me and feel it was too risky to touch my liver. Everything worked out fine but I did go to my GP and had blood work run before heading all the way there just to be turned away. My patient coordinator was really good about sending my questions and lab reports to my Dr. before we booked anything and they adjusted by pre-op requirements based on my specific circumstances. Talk with your coordinator to see what they suggest and relax because stress makes everything worse.

Definitely what others said! If you're honest with your doctor, then you can do a lot before you ever get there. I had a lung abscess earlier this year, so when scheduling the sleeve, I told my surgeon. Told him about the follow-up to it, etc. so once I was here, it was a non-issue.

Keep in mind that they DO want to do the surgery, so if there's something they can do to make that happen (such as an extra pre-op), they will.

Many worry, but if you don't have any real health problems or a fatty liver you should get your surgery, If something is really wrong any good surgeon won't oporate! Things such as heart conditions, breathing issues, anemia, or any disease that they might find like HIV ect. Cholesterola nd Diabetis are common and won't stop this surgery:)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
