I feel my port sticking out

Recommended Posts

I couldn't feel my port at first but as I lost weight I could feel it more and more, now...since I'm almost at goal....I can even see my port when I stand with my back straight....doesn't bother me a bit...small price to pay for such happiness with lost weight.

Is it like sticking out and noticable or you can feel it under the skin when you rub over it? It is normal to feel it when you rub over it. Those that have lost a lot of weight can sometimes see it poking out. They make a low profile port that can replace the original, but I think it can still be felt if you rub your hands over it.

I could feel my port for the first few months, but now cannot feel it at all. I expected the opposite.

I can feel mine always when I am lying down or standing but after I have eaten I am much more aware of it. It actually kind of helps me to know if I ate correctly because it is harder in that area after I eat so if it is really hard when I am done I know my shoulder is going to hurt later and I make a note of what I ate.

It seems an amount of one thing is not too much but the same amount of another thing is and right now that port area getting kind of firm helps me to know ok I am not eating anymore.

Sounds strange but that is what happens for me.

I think when all of my weight is off I will be able to see my port really badly cause it is so evident right now. Perhaps though it is still really swollen there?

I used to be very aware of my port. It still ached now and then for the first 3-4 months. Bumping it hurt. Now I only notice it if I am feeling for it. Mine does not "stick out" or anything weird. I can feel it if I am trying to to, otherwise I forget it is there.

I feel my port too but that I have been told is normal...I am less aware of it now than i was in the initial stages. however, sometimes it is uncomfortable when I sleep on the side that it is on...I have felt a little pain at times.

 becky

Oh, I definitely remember feeling it when trying to sleep. It use to drive me crazy trying to sleep on my stomach or even laying on my side. That goes away too. OR, it did for me. I literally never feel my port anymore unless I have my hand pressing looking for it, lol. It is just under the surface skin, but not visible or anything.

Mine poked out the first month and a half or so. Now I can only find it if I look for it. I expected the opposite like Wheetsin.

Yeah, I feel it. But it feels like a baseball-sized hard lump

in the middle of my waistline. The injection site is just on the side

of my navel, but apparently the scar tissue is a big area.

Others don't have it in the waist. It's really uncomfortable and makes

clothing uncomfortable over it. My doc basically tells me to live with it.

Yikes I feel for you because I just had mine a month ago (so that may be part of why) but if I wear even low rise jeans that are too tight I am in misery after a couple of hours and my port is like 5 inches above my belly button.

Was there a reason he placed it so high. I mean were they not thinking of pants hitting that and the discomfort? Hopefully you will be more comfortable as it heals. Good Luck!

I heard about different port sizes and asked my dr about it before surgery and he said he puts the larger one in everyone and then after you lose the weight and if its sticking out he puts in the flatter one. He brought them both out to show me, they are basically the same size except one is thinner. He said its done in the the office under local anthes. - he acted like it was no big deal. I can feel my port if I search for it, it just feels like a lump.

I requested the low-profile port because of I'm short-waisted and to avoid the port being seen as I lose the weight. I can find the port if I feel around for it, but I can't discern the top from the side. The jury is still out on whether I will eventually have to have the port relocated. Maybe I'll have a better idea once I'm about 50lbs down.

I can see mine and feel it. It is on my left side almost exactly on the side of my body. It does ride up under my ribs sometimes. I have to lay on my right side for a fill since it is so lateral.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
