6 weeks post op and miserable

Recommended Posts

Im almost 10 months out and Im just now within the last month able to drink powered zero to get my Fluid in. I couldnt do Water at all. I could hot or ice ice cold nothing in between. It was rough. I found early on that I was able to do G2 gatorade. Although i couldn't intake much fluid drinking G2 helped me not be full blown dehydration. plus I took chewable vitamins and liquid B12 to help with energy. It will get better. Is there anything you can tolerate to eat? It seemed for me the first 3 months I couldn't do hardly any carbs but was able to do Protein very good.

I am drinking Gatorade and am taking my Vitamins. The last day or two I seem to be tolerating things a little better. Although I did vomit for the first time the other night since coming home. I do not tolerate pizza. Lol Yesterday I was able to eat a very small amount of steak cut up into very tiny pieces along with some broccoli and sweet potato. I was really surprised I did as well with it as I did. I am, however, having a lot of trouble with heartburn again. I guess if it's not one thing it's another. Still wondering if I did the right thing by having the surgery though.

you have to start very slowly introducing foods, and then one or two bites is ALL you need.. and CHEW it until you cannot chew it anymore, we are (were) all so used to GULPING our food down..we cannot do that anymore.... It still bothers me to go out to eat and watch ALL the food people eat in one setting.... when we go out, I look for the best grilled meat.. and a veggie... i take 3-6 bites, and I am done, I bring the rest home for hubby or use it for lunch the next day and maybe even the next.... FOOD will and should take on a WHOLE NEW MEANING to you.... yes I am a year and 18 mos out..... but I am STILL VERY careful what I try to eat.. because if you do not you will pay with the burping and icky feeling.... it just is not worth it for me...........ROCK THAT SLEEVE and DRINK that Water or any other liquid you can get down.......... Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
