Hello to all my Lower BMIers:

I wanted to try something - I am still in the "pre-op" of banding. I have a consultaion on tomorrow and then I just have to wait for the insurance approval (or I'll self-pay). Anyway - I thought I would make a chart and for every 10 pounds I lose I would reward myself. I think this would be a mental thing for me so that I will not get discourage and I have something to work for. So I was wanting some ideas from you guys/gals. I'm making a list of things, so far I have

Purse

Walking Shoes

get my nails & toes done

new hair style

new outfit

weekend get-a-away

I could use some help - I didn't want to do anything to expensive just something that would encourage me when I get on the scale and see that I am 1 pound away from that reward I would give myself that extra push!!

Thanks everyone.

How is everyone doing today???

I am doing great Audree. Thanks for asking! I am wondering- what is

Spirulina Oats? I need some kind of Fiber in my diet.

I think I am coming down with a cold too. I have a very sore throat. I am going to take some airborne in a minute too. I took echinacea this morning and it helped a lot. But I forgot to take some to work with me and it was really hard to work and even harder to drink Water. It hurt to swallow. I took some when I got home and it's a lot better. I am a very firm believer in that stuff. It always helps me so much.

Friday I can start on my doctors approved list of solids/mushies. He says no red meat until 6 weeks out but that's okay. I am not big on red meat anyway. You keep talking about chili so I think I will make some with ground turkey.

I bet you will be really surprised when you finally weigh yourself! I've lost

15 lbs. I can't wait to get into some of my old pants. All my pants are too big right now, but I tried on the some old pants from before I gained some of my weight back after my last Atkins attempt. They were still too tight. I refuse to buy any new clothes until I have lost a bunch more.

I am really excited to have my first fill. I feel like that's when I will really be able to tell how the band is working. I don't think being on liquids really counts. Anyone would probably lose weight drinking 3 or 4 cans of slim fast a day.

I hope everyone that is waiting for their surgery date gets banded soon. I feel like a walking advertisement for lap band surgery!:biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1:

I buy this coffee that is supposed to be healthy for you and this oatmeal type thing called Spirulina Oats. It is called Gano. You can get more info on Ganoexcel.com

I can start my solids on Saturday. I think I am going to buy Morning Star soy sausage patties and some other healthy type Proteins like salmon patties, crab patties.

For some reason I don't get a mushy stage. The only thing I can figure out from that is someone told me you tend to gain when you get into the mushy stage. Maybe because it is easier to get in excess calories with mushies and they are so yummy!!! So, he has me go straight to solids.

I also refuse to buy any new clothes and will just use up the stuff that hasn't fit me for so long. My surgeon told me to get ready to burn ALL of my clothes! I can't wait to go shopping and like what I see in the mirror for the first time!

I also set my appointment for my first fill for Feb. 17. So, in three and a half more weeks! But, my restriction is still holding up to varying degrees. I am still keeping to the 1 cup a meal rule. I don't want to push it. I will use this time to lose as much as I can.

At least I am able to get about 1000 calories in now.

Hi all,

Silry- Excellent! I can't wait til you get your date!

Audree, Dr. Ortiz said the reason he doesn't do mushies is because they just don't keep you full, so you end up eating more. 3 weeks is enough for your stomach to heal so you can handle the solids. But, when you start out, I did kind of mushies for a while. eggs really count as a solid and so does cottage cheese because of how they digest I guess, anyway, try to stick to that type of food the first day. Sausage DOES NOT work for me at all, so be careful.

Have a nice evening all!

Bikergirl360,

Facials are excellent.

Movie out!

Dancing!

Bowling.

I love shopping and looking at all the clothes, but I can't get myself to buy anything. I have like 4 outfits and 2 pairs of jeans. Luckily, everyone wears jeans to work on Fridays.

I'm getting sick of wearing the same thing all the time. My 1 pair of 14's that still kind of fits is getting quite loose, so today I stinched up the belt and wore them. I'm, I think, almost to where I could buy some 10's but I think they are going to be tight. I have 2 pairs of 12's I can wear to work, but they are getting loose and a 14 that fits like the 12's do. I'm am really too scared to try on the 10's cause I don't want to discover they don't fit. Maybe after the TOM comes and goes, any day now, I'll take the plunge and try some on. I'll be crossing my fingers the whole time.

Keep in mind that I'm only 5' 2" so I'm hardly the next Tari Hatcher. Maybe an Eva Longoria?

Thanks! I am glad to find out why! It makes sense. I will make sure I buy cottage cheese. Will cottage cheese pack the pouch too to keep me full longer or does it go through the band?

The Morning Star sausage is really soy. Do you have problems with veggie burger type stuff?

I am picky about me meats, chicken, etc. I buy organic milk, eggs, chicken, beef, etc. So, soy is a good choice for me as well as fish.

I heard crab cakes are good too!

I can't wait to hit Trader Joe's and Henry's (health food markets) and buy me some good protein! I used to get these veggie burgers that had pieces of actual veggies in it. I think it was called Dr. Krogers or something like that.

I CAN'T WAIT TILL SATURDAY!!!! But, then in a way I am scared because I don't want to PB. I can tell my restriction has let up. I can drink my Water faster and eat my Soup faster without feeling restriction.

Will I feel restriction again when I start on solids?

Audree,

Honestly I can't answer you about the restriction, you are feeling it way longer than I did,

I don't eat soy, or veggie stuff, so I can't answer you on that. Just make sure what ever you eat isn't dry. that makes it tough.

WOW! You are doing great! You sound like you will need a new wardrobe sometime in the near future! I heard there was a clothing swap on ObesityHelp.com I want to look into it. Or I will donate my clothes to like a women's shelter or something.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
