Carb Frustration! Help!

Recommended Posts

I am so frustrated with trying to get my carb levels down my doctor recommends 60-80g carbs per day but it does not specify how I'm suppose to keep them that low. I am using Lose It! App to track my food intake. I know many of you use My Fitness Pal and maybe the tracking is different on that App. I know many of you say you keep your carbs as low as 40g a day or I have even heard 10g a day. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? For example did you know that one little apple has 25g carbs?? So what are you guys out there eating- meat only!? No fruits or veggies or whole grains?

I am just so scared I am going to fail at this :,(! I have not had a single "bad carb" for months so i know my high carb levels are not from that. Oh and my Protein levels are fine usually 70g or more a day. What am I doing wrong? Are you fellow sleevers not counting the good carbs in the total carb count or what?? :(

It's sad to say but a lot of us don't eat things like apples (fruit) everyday :( and some of us never eat grains!

That being said I have been known to have a piece of fruit once in a while :) I really do try and stay away from bread, Pasta, rice though.

Veggies? I'm sorry I'm eating them, and you can't stop me! :D

Honestly, I eat mostly meat.

I am trying to eat fruit -- but I'm not eating a whole apple but a piece or 2 of an apple. I do eat veggies.

I don't have any bread, Pasta or rice or potatoes.

Me too. Protein first, then the others if they fit. I rarely eat bread of any kind, never eat rice, noodles, or Pasta anymore. I miss my veggies & fruit, but only eat them sparingly. My NUT said that I could, but to eat 3 bites of protein for every 1 bite of veggie or fruit.

I have just about all of the complex carbs I can (along with my protein) during the days I workout. Such as green veggies, oats, quinoa and even some brown rice, but mostly I stick with broccoli and oats for my carbs. I have cut out, or nearly eliminated all white bread, Pasta and sugar. But that doesn't mean I don't crave it some or fall off the wagon.

I struggle with carbs too. I'm 10 weeks out and log them everyday, also on Lose It. I try to keep them low, but I average about 50 a day. I'm not having a lot of fruit, rather mine come from potatoes, popcorn, and crackers. If I start adding fruit, I'll have to give up the other. And I will likely rotate it some and just keep logging it in.

I like Lose It, probably quite similar to Myfittnesspal, as I know what I have left as the day progresses. It allows me to plan ahead and 'save' some carbs for later... or know that I've had enough.

Carbs are a big part of what I did wrong before surgery. I had no idea, for example, that my bowl of grapenuts had 90 carbs. Who would have thought...bark chips....were so bad. So shoot for 40 carbs and if you go over, 60 is okay. We just have to watch it. Fortunately for me I don't have a sweet tooth, so I'm not dealing with candies and Desserts.< /p>

Good luck!

I don't eat crackers, bread, Pasta, carby veggies like potatoes and while I do eat fruit, it is limited. I mostly eat berries as fruit.

I eat alot of meat, cheese, low carb yogurt, green/low carby veggies.

I do eat nuts which have a fair amount of carbs

Since I am in maintenance - I do allow myself carby foods sometimes, but on a daily basis, try to keep it moderate.

I limit bad carbs like breads, pasta rice etc... But I eat fruit and vegetables in addition to my Protein. It is all healthy and IMO unhealthy to cut it out. My nutrition program may be different than some of the ones others are working with in that they don't only deal with WLS patients. They recommend not eliminating any healthy foods but limiting some of them. Now this may be the reason I don't lose as fast but I am happy with my results thus far and feel like I am doing it in a way that is reasonable and sustainable for me.

I'm not eating any bad carbs - no bread, rice, Pasta, crackers - nothing and I still have a high carb count. My guess is then if everyone is keeping such a low carb count they must not be eating much fruit or veggies? meat only I'm guessing?

Wait.. Why am I keeping my carbs under 30. I'm jealous! I gotta have me some cottage cheese and yogurt and I'm still under 30 if even close to that.

But how? I don't get it. :(

Not sure if that question is to me, but I'll answer just in case. Basically, I can only eat a few ounces at a time. My meals I eat mainly Protein which is basically carb free and then I snack on cheeses and I consider cottage cheese mixed with Greek yogurt as dessert. Like I said though, I can't eat much at all so sometimes it's just a few bites and I have to come back to it for a snack.

I don't have hunger or cravings or I'd eat other things I'm sure. So far I've lost my appetite for sweets.. Including ice cream, which I would eat by the tub full.

Ps even with eating fruit and veg my carbs are at around 80g per day which is the amount my surgeon indicated as optimal.

Something that hasn't been mentioned i that a lot of low carbers are counting net carbs. (Carb count minus Fiber count) that's what in doing. I usually get around 38 carbs but minus the Fiber, it's still under 20 like I'm aiming for. :)

I eat meat, cheese, some nuts, dry roasted edamame.

I won't touch crackers because they make me crave more and I haven't had much in the way of fruit since being sleeved 10 weeks ago. Fruit makes me hungry as a snack, and I don't usually have room for it during my meal. I want mine super low while losing to lose quicker and hopefully consistently.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
