So I've been researching shakes, and I went ahead and clicked on an ad on this site for IdealShape Shakes. I really liked that they have 20 Vitamins and minerals, 18 of which are at a 50, 60, 80, or 90% rate of the recommended daily value--not to mention the low calories, sugars and carbs. Considering the lack of ability to consume much of anything, I really value that. However, the grams of Protein per serving is low (only 11 grams). My thinking is to add a flavorless protein to get the protein I need; reaping in the tradeoff of great DV's. What do y'all think? Has anyone tried this or perhaps have better suggestions? Need help...trying to prepare!

I'm also pre-op & have been looking at shake options. Lately I've started thinking about trying different combos with extracts. For instance, I have a banana creme Protein shake and an Isopure coconut drink. I thought about combining them with some rum extract, or maybe looking for a graham cracker extract. Or trying something mocha-ish with a chocolate shake & instant espresso powder.

I also found this site & they have a great list of suggested combos: recipes.html" rel="external nofollow">http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/p/protein-shake-recipes.html

Good luck to you!

Realizing that you cant consume much and you are in desperate need of protein....is the cost a good trade off?Plus you need to see how it tastes can and can you handle it it? So many things to consider.

I am 5 days after surgery and I just got sick with the shake I was using. Any ideas?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
