Post Prandial Ghrelin Response

Recommended Posts

Here is a link to a scientific research study showing that high Protein breakfasts lead to long term reduction in ghrelin response, that satiety lasts longer with pure Protein, and that ghrelin is glucose dependent, fascinating!!

This study only used men! Would it necessarily be the same for women? There are already studies showing that other things like intermittent fasting May in fact be bad for women and yet great for men, but because the initial studies included men only people assumed that it would be good for all. Also a study including only 15 people is a little disconcerting. Having said all that, it is still interesting and I hope more studies are done using more people of both sexes.

Nice to know and thanks for posting. What is surprising is that it is completely opposite to the saying/recommendation that we should eat our carbs early in the day.

I should get back on the wagon. Cheers !

Thanks! This info fits with my anecdotal evidence. If I eat enough Protein and calories earlier in the day, I don't get the bad after dinner cravings. Like many others, once I go down the sweet/carb road, it's hard to turn back.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
