I have to wait 6 weeks to do the EGD for medical reasons...so they don't perforate anything and because they needed the healing time. I hope it's right about the acid being reduced to help the ulcer but I don't know because it sure is burning.

I look forward to hearing from you after your appt on Monday to see if you get some answers! Let me know!

Hey girlie how's it going??

Hey girlie how's it going??

Hey Laura...great to hear from you! Great profile pic too by the way! I need to do one of those, but I'm one of those people who hate taking pics so I have no pics post op! :).

Well I'm doing ok I guess...still have the burning from the ulcer and my doctor is still reluctant to do the EGD. So until then I'm doubled up on meds and potassium cuz I'm still low on that too. Even then I don't know what they can do for me so it looks like I'm where I'm gonna be for a while. It's kinda frustrating, well really frustrating to be honest. I'm maintaining my 130lb weight which is good and at least I'm not losing any more but I'm not getting all my Protein in or all my liquids but I try. And I'm only tolerating certain foods so I get sick of them...I've had diarrhea for over 2 weeks so dehydration is a problem too. Anyway enough about all my problems...I miss being on here as much...and I miss reading all your posts!

Thanks for asking about me! ;)

I am so glad to see these posts. I will give a short history. I had lap band surgery in 2006. In 2008, I had sleeve revision surgery (Mexico-self pay). Starting about 4 years ago, I have had constant heartburn. For the past few years, I have started vomiting after meals, several times a day, at least 3-4 days per week. My weight started at 200 lbs. I am now at 136 ( my lowest was 115 lbs 4 years ago). I have had 3 endoscopes done. All 3 have shown moderate gastritis and a hiatal hernia. For the past 6 months I have started having severe burning in my stomach, different then the heartburn. I am on weekly Vitamin B-12 injections and Vitamin D supplements. I am wondering if I may need a bypass in order to get past the heartburn, burning and most of all, the vomiting. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you should speak to your dr about some carafate and cytotec. They help heal and prevent ulcers.

I feel for ya...I know exactly what you're going thru...

That being said, and already having the bypass revision done from the sleeve...I'm not sure I wouldn't stick with the reflux considering what I'm going thru now. I've had a ct scan done over a week ago, just finished a 24 hour heart monitor, have been diagnosed with vaso vagal (sp?) syncope, have a cyst in my right kidney, a stone in my left kidney, have to do a 24 hour urine output test, and have a liver work up scheduled for November 4th because my liver function is screwed up....

I'm now at 127 pounds. A very unhealthy 127 pounds. I think I might take that acid reflux 145 pounds and maybe even that 218 pounds back if I could...ugh!!!!

WOW!!! Are all the complications attributed to the revision surgery? My lap and to sleeve was done in Mexicali, Mexico. I will contact the doctor there to see what he thinks. I haven't talked with him about my vomiting problem. Thank you for sharing your story.

No, I had several complications beginning with the sleeve in the first place...the problems just got exacerbated with the revision surgery with the exception of the GERD/reflux...it's actually gone.

Make sure you do talk with your dr...that relationship is very very important!

Hello, I'm so sorry to hear that you are not doing well! I posted in this thread a month or so ago. I'm still having reflux issues but have put off the bypass surgery.. I am now done to 123 & don't want to loose anymore weight! Never thought I would ever say that in my life..

I still take my Prilosec & have good & bad days!

I hope things get better for you!

Wow 123??? That's little!! I'm sorry you're still having reflux issues but please please don't do the bypass now!! My weight just keeps coming off and I don't know how to stop it! Even my cardiac doctor is concerned. I would take those good and bad days back in a heartbeat! Please take care with your weight! All the best to you too!

Hello,

I've been reading your thread about your revision from sleeve to bypass. I'm in the same boat that you were before you revised. I have severe bile reflux, gastritis, and very very painful esophageal spasms. The pain is almost unbearable. I feel as if I'm having an heart attack every time this happens to me which is usually daily or every other day. I went back to my surgeon and he is going to do two more test on me. One is the chip inserted into the esophagus that records for 24 hours. Not sure exactly what its called. Maybe a capsule endoscopy. The other being a manometry. I'm really scared to have the manometry done but I know I have too. So anyway, my surgeon informs me that I may need to have the revision from sleeve to gastric bypass and I'm scared to death. I also don't know how I can live with this pain from the spasms caused by the GERD.

From reading your story, it seems you are still having such problems. What should I do? I have no other options out there. I'm not sure if you had esophageal spasms before with the sleeve or just GERD but the spasms are UNBEARABLE!

How are you doing at this point and can you tell me about your experience since the by pass? I know you talked about it before but it would be so helpful to hear exactly your experience since the surgery.

I hope you are doing better. I know this is so much for someone to have to go through.

Thank you so much.

Lisa....wow...I don't know what to say. I never had the two tests you mentioned, nor do I even know what they are but I'm going to google them right after I get done typing this.

You didn't mention what you were taking for your GERD or how often, but I take dexilant 60 mg twice a day. I did that before the bypass revision and I still do...why? I'm not sure because the reflux is absolutely gone....which is the ONLY good thing I can say about having the revision done.

My current status is that I just was released from the hospital on Thursday night late from a two day stay where they tested me for just about everything that has to do with my sleeve/bypass. You see, I'm still having severe abdomen pain, I'm still dry heaving for about an hour a night x 3-4 nights per week. Along with some other complications such as passing out cold and elevated liver counts on my blood work. Also I might mention that I was at my drs goal weight of 145 when I went in for the bypass and 5 pounds from my goal weight of 140. I was down to 125 when I went in to the hospital for a routine EGD on this past Wednesday. They kept me overnight and gave me a banana bag full of potassium and other Vitamins, lots of other bolus fluids and I was npo for my entire stay until the very end where they wanted to see if I could handle full liquids. They also tried to stick an NG feeding tube down my nose which promptly came out because they never could get it exactly where they wanted it and never taped it down, how aggravating! And they decided they didn't want me to have a picc line feeding tube because of the risks of that so they just told me to try and get 4 Protein shakes down a day...wth? I have severe abdominal pain people!!!!! You haven't found the source!

Anyway, I have been going to a cardiac dr per my pcp's advice because of the passing out. He diagnosed me with vasovagal syncope. My blood pressure drops dramatically (I'm lucking if it hits 95/65 on a regular basis) and my heart races, I feel flush, and then I just pass out cold...I probably feel that way at least once a day. They did a 24 hour heart monitor and a 24 hour urine output test which I have yet to get the results on either. Stress test scheduled for Tuesday.

My elevated liver tests have my drs on high alert because I don't drink and they make me look like I've been an alcoholic for a very long time...so I have an appt scheduled with a liver specialist on Monday (tomorrow). And I'm hoping since he's a GI dr that he can also do what my surgeon had failed to do and diagnose my severe abdominal pain and dry heaving bouts.

So, for someone who really didn't know what to say, I sure said a lot, didn't i? I don't know how to tell you to proceed, because if I could go back in time, I would never have had either procedure...I'm a 47 year old malnutritioned adult who weighs way under what she should, looks absolutely horrible, hair falling out ghost of the woman she once was, unable to work, function on a daily basis, and has to depend on others for help driving and holding me up when I feel faint. If it weren't for my husband I don't know what I'd do. He's even had to get FMLA papers for work because he's missed so much time to be with me at the hospital.

Please please proceed with caution...I don't know you but I care about you and I worry about your decision but I understand completely your pain. Please keep me posted I will be right here for you every step of the way and whenever you need to talk.

Thanks Laura...I know, but I don't feel that strong enough to fight anymore...last night was a rough night with lots of tears so it might have contributed to my rant this morning but I really do feel like I chose to give myself a life threatening instead of life prolonging procedure...twice! And it makes me feel sorry for my children and my husband for having to go thru all of this with me, even though they're very very supportive! Just really ready for some answers, and some relief.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
