How Quick is Aetna at approvals?

Recommended Posts

So I just found out my paperwork has been submitted! How long did most people have to wait with Aetna before approval. I have a date I really want the surgery so hoping I get it for a surgery date of June 6th!!! What are my chances?

I have Aetna insurance and it only took a week after the papers were submitted to get approval. I'm scheduled for surgery on May 30th. Best of luck to you! Hope you get the surgery date you want! :)

That was quick.....my papers were submitted 5/17. Just curious, not trying to be nosy but f you you do not mind....your BMI? Any co-morbitities? My BMI is just over 40 and I have no co-morbitities. The 40 BMI alone shiuld be enough according to ky surgeon and fron what I researched but I have read some negative things about Aetna on these boards and I am starting to worry

I have Aetna and my surgeons office is taking care of all the paperwork... I'm assuming that I'm approval since I have a date of June 11th... Should I be worried., I have a BMI of 49 with no co- morbidities.

I had Aetna and had to fight with for 18 months, and being declined twice. I had to hire a healthcare advocate who wrote a letter to the Executive Vice President to get the denial overturned. I was denied because I had no comorbities but had a bmi of 49, which was against policy. I was finally approved and had my surgery on 2/19. Good luck and I hope your experience is better than mine.

Hi Michele,

No worries about being nosey...this is probably the only place I've been comfortable enough to be open about everything in regards to weight and such. :) My BMI at the time of submission was 50. I didn't really have any big co-morbidities except for I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. My surgeon's office told me that Aetna is generally one of the faster insurance companies they've dealt with. And a nurse from Aetna actually called me before I heard from the surgeon's office to tell me that I had been approved. I hope you get your approval very soon! :)

They'll approve because your BMI meets their criteria! You'll be fine, what I did was called them every once and a while until they told me it was approved. Lol I was waiting for the Dr office to call!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
