Some reassurance/advice por favor! :)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! So I'm looking for some reassurance or advice. I am PO day 3, surgery was on Tuesday April, 23rd. I feel really good, yesterday was my first full day home from the hospital. I struggled with getting the right amount of fluids and Protein in (I'll be on Clear Liquids for a week), but I'm already doing a lot better today with that. I weighed myself for the first time PO this morning and I haven't lost a single pound!! Did anyone else experience this? I know its only been 3 days, its just kinda depressing, ya know?

Me too. Had surgery 4/22 /13 I had lost prior to surgery. Then weighted myself yesterday and I gained. Does anybody know why?

Congrats on getting through it. I would not worry about what the scale says. You are not likely to see pounds come off every single day. Sometimes it is counter productive to check a lot. I think you best serve yourself to not worry about the weight loss, and focus your energy in following the program and making the eating and lifestyle changes that come with the surgery. The results will come. A lot of the changes coming will be mental/emotional, and it will take a lot to adjust and overcome. You do not need to add to it the worry of not having lost a pound or 2 a day or week. Always remember that the sleeve is a tool to help change your lifestyle/eating habits/emotional attachments to food. You still have to work really hard to make it successful. Good Luck.

Also you are retaining Fluid and air from the surgery. If they were pumping you full of IV fluids. And the air from blowing you up during surgery. Good luck and it will come, the weight loss.

I totally agree with Terryg1/28 . The IV fluids will do it & will the gas the use in your stomach! My sister had the same problem when she recently had her sleeve done. She weighed herself 3 days after surgery and she didn't lose anything. Trust the process, it will work. :)

I didn't starting losing right away either. I shrugged it off, cause I just firstly wanted to focus on my body feeling stronger/better & also I figured it might have been due to maybe still being swollen. It will come sure enough. Try to be encouraged when you think about the great things soon to come your way! congrats on a successful surgery. :-)

I actually gained 8 pounds from the surgery, all fluids from the IV's of course. It is typical. Give it few days and the Water will come off and you will start losing. For me, seemed like it came off about 2 pounds a day or so for the few 4-5 days.

If I had it to do over again, I would have not stepped on the scale for a week. Then only once per week. Gives the mind and body a better time to heal. :)

Best of luck to you new sleevers. In a couple of weeks when you are feeling better, your life is going to get awesome! :) :) :)

Oh girl, you will!

Be patient and take it one day at a time. The weight will start to fall off. My suggestion: don't weigh yourself every day. I set Wednesday as my weigh-in day and I looked forward to it every week. It's a more dramatic change and you won't be aware of those days where you only lose a small amount (or none at all).

For you guys who had surgery on tuesday the 23rd. I also did and I still feel like CRAP!!! I feel weak, nauseated, sore, having gas pains... I have been walking and sipping constant. I have taken in approx 200 calories since tuesday... The last thing I feel like is weighing myself! Pleas tell me this will pass. Not feeling good at all and so want to be able to drink without it hurting!!!

Hang in there Findjoy13, I'm 7 months and feeling excellent. I felt the same way, would i ever feel better. I certainly thought I was all by myself, but alas I wasn't. you will get there, just be patient and take it an hour at at time. Walkingt will help with the gas pain. If your not sipping your sleeping was what I was told.

Yes, hang in there. It's not a fun time right now but it will get better and you will be so glad you did this. Just not today.

In a few weeks time, you will be amazed! :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
