Dr. Garcia vs. Dr. Aceves?

Recommended Posts

I personally believe Dr. Garcia could be more expensive if he worked out of a larger' date=' more upgraded facility. I wouldn't be surprised if his price increased over the next year or two. He is a fantastic surgeon and his team is amazing. Good luck with whomever you choose[/quote']

I agree, last I heard his price was going to increase $500. Anyone who's recently booked with him care to share his price?

I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to outgrow his current arrangements considering how in demand he is and his consistent patient satisfaction and loyal following.

So does Garcia...Florence Oasis is a full scale hospital...Look it up! I just came from Dr. Garcia and the care that you receive is top notch!!!

I did type it in and no hospital comes up. Only Medical Tourism sites. When I type in Almater Hospital (Dr. Aceves hospital) and actual hospital website comes up. It's like our hospitals in the US.

Another thing that worries me about Garcia is he says he uses staples and sutures. From what I've heard (from doctors here in US) all they use is staples (titanium). Does Garcia use both because he's trying to save money from not using too many staples? From what I've heard the staples alone cost 3,000 and some people question whether he uses subpar staples.

Don't get me wrong I still have not made up my mind between the two yet. I'm still researching everywhere I can to find out what is better for me.

Dr. Aceves staples and sutures as well. That seems to be the "rule" rather than the exception.

I actually asked about this the other day! I was told that he sutures over the 3 lines of staples. Here is a pic of the equipment he uses.

Olivia,

I'm kind of in the same position you are. I have only heard wonderful things about Dr. Aceves! Plus he's a member of the FACS and he's a proctor for Johnson & Johnson! But he's a lot more money than Dr. Garcia. I'm down to Aceves and Garcia as well. I don't make much money so of course I want to do what best for me as well as what I can afford. I was all for going with Dr. Aceves, but I'm having serious car trouble and may have to get a new car. I won't be able to afford the car plus monthly payment to Dr. Aceves if I have to do that. I stay confused... Lol

Hmm I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Now I'm more 50/50 lol. All I know is the surgeon here said titanium staples because a lady at the seminar asked what they used. He said titanium last forever.

Jesser - I don't have a lot of money either. I'm actually borrowing from my 401k. I need a new car also. That's why I haven't made up my mind yet. If I go with Garcia I can aford newer car but at the same time I'm afraid I may be risking my life. Crazy huh?

Dr Acceves did my sleeve three weeks ago. He was amazing, the care was amazing and dr. Campos who is the dr. In charge of aftercare was amazing. One of the doctors was in to see me every 4-6 hours for the entire time. They did tests and came in over the weekend - unheard of elsewhere.

If I used the call button a nurse was there in less than a minute every time. I was happy for the three days in the hospital. I was textbook perfect in terms of recovery, walking the evening after surgery and able to keep liquids down easily. That said I would not have wanted any less time in the hospital. I would have been fine but the extra day was good and I certainly could not have gone shopping or wandering that day. It really is major surgery and I wouldn't have had the energy.

I can't recommend him highly enough.

Yes, I know exactly how you feel. I don't have anywhere to borrow the money from, I'm having to save every dime! I'm determined to go this summer though! I have to :(

When I was making my decision I was scare sh$!less about going to Mexico to have this done which is why I really preferred at that time to go with Aceves. Now that Aceves no longer offers the payment plan I can't afford the $10,500 price tag. That being I'm going to use a quote from my dad "That sometimes in life decisions get made for you" and this was one of those times. So I'm excited, putting my trust in God that he will guide Dr. Garcia's hand I'm my surgery, and hoping for the best!

I think a lot of Drs use staples and sutures. Dr Kelly does something using the tissue around the stomach and sutures it over the line of staples so it greatly reduces the risk of a leak. Hearing him explain it is pretty neat, but this thread isn't about him. I don't think staples are expensive enough to save money on them. There is no way the staples alone cost 3,000. Not even near that.

If I had to choose between the 2 doctors I almost always go with the one with more experience, which would be Aceves by a long shot. I think there are only 2 in Mexico on par with his experience. florence is a great hospital btw, full scale with all the things you would find in the states.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
