Sure. First, congrats on your decision.I am getting so excited and really cannot wait!!

My Cpap is 4.5 years old, does not have oxygen connected, just pushes air with or without moisture. It has a computer card that I pull out and take to my pulmonologist or to the supply company and they plug it into a card reader that connects with their computer program and prints out a LOT of pages and a summary page to show how you comply with using your cpap: ex..do you use it every night, how many hours on average do you use it, what was the minimum and maximum usages etc.

My surgeon went page by page through 2 years worth, luckily that was the maximum the pulmo. could print out. :-) then he looked at the summary and said it all looked good. I had 100% compliance...hey, I don't want to risk dying while I am sleeping!! Lol

Actually, I use a Bi-Pap and love, love, love it! I know that is a different machine from a C-Pap but essentially, they both perform the same function…keeping us alive when we are asleep. It took a bit of getting used to but I even use mine when I am reading or watching TV before bed. I actually find it comforting and freak out if we have bad weather and power outages. They probably have battery back-ups so I need to check on that.

I had my initial study 8 years ago but have never had a follow-up. And since then, I have not had a consultation with a pulmo. I’m so glad you posted this because I am going to schedule another sleep study ASAP. One of my biggest fears about the surgery is anesthetic and sleep apnea.

I had no idea there was a computer card in the machine but I am going to take a look. Mine has a menu option that shows total hours used so there probably is a way they can confirm daily use.

Thanks so much for posting!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
