So have any of you had folks in your immediate circle disagree with your decision on getting surgery? I'm dealing with a close girlfriend who turned into a detractor. It's saddening and I am avoiding giving her any info regarding details of the surgery. I just don't need the negativity right now. I am so glad that I found other women on this forum who are going to the same thing!

I actually had the same thing happen with the guy I wad seeing a few months ago. It was very difficult and actually broke us up

Ironically this person I am speaking of is one of my best friends! I have only told 4 folks. Two of which live with me and all are super supportive except her! She talks about how I could die. Mind you I told her I was only CONSIDERING it... not my final decision to do it. think its threat to her if I become thin as she remains plus sized. I don't want to lie and omit details but I am feeling like I may have to so I can remain positive. If she continues to obsess over it and continues to badger me I may have to be firm with her. This is something I want to avoid. :(

I think your problem is the fact that she's plus size too. My surgeon told us (in a group meeting) that "you will find out who your real friends are". But my personal opinion is that your friend will be angry with you for a long while- give her time to grieve over the loss over you as she knows you. You are changing who your are and she will need time to adjust to your transition. Once she she's that you will still be her friend once your thin then she will hopefully come around, but it could be a while.

Justtobreathe Oh my I am so sorry to hear about your situation! Well I have decided not to tell her I have an actual surgery date and I am going through with it. i will blame the weight loss on diet and exercise so SHE feels more secure and I don't have to hear her jealous commentary. My husband is super supportive thankfully. I don't want to hear her back handed comments as she uses useless methods of weight loss that don't work over and over out of fear of me having the surgery. She was bulimic at one point and I never judged her. It would be nice to be afforded the same courtesy don't cha think? If she tried to qualify I can see how an eating disorder could stop approval. But she never even considered it as an option for herself.

Don't be surprised if she goes back to bulimia and don't blame yourself if she does.

I'll be watching the mailbox this week--my insurance company should be mailing out my letter of approval (I'm not even going to consider the possibility that they will say no), and it should be arriving by mid-week! Then a phone consult with my surgeon's office to nail down The Date...eeek! So excited!

YES. Not so much freaking out but really weepy holding my 1 year old extra long, imagining me picking him up from school fit and ready to play ball or run with him. I scheduled the surgery after his 2 yo birthday this July at the end of the month. Checked my fasting blood sugar today and it was 125... Just ANOTHER CONFIRMATION I am doing the right thing for my health. For those who do not know 99 and below is normal. I had gestational diabetes complete with 2 types of insulin I had to take 4 times a day. It seems to be coming back to kick my but however I WON'T ALLOW IT!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
