I have THREAD coming out of one of my incisions

Recommended Posts

Weirdest thing ever! I've googled it and it doesn't seem uncommon. For some reason my body didn't absorb it and now it's pushing it out! Calling the doctor for advice this AM!

I had a few of those too. I tugged gently on them and most came right out.. The one that didn't, I just used a pair of nail clippers (new out of the package for sanitary reasons) and clipped it close to the skin. When I was nine years old, my family doctor let me take out my own stitches- he cut them and let me pull them out under his supervision.... and he pretty much created a monster that day.

I had the same thing. I just left them alone and they just finally absorbed or fell out. Not a biggie.

Makes me think that if you pull on it, it'll unravel everything....lol....I know it's not true, but it was the first thought that came to mind. Hope that pesky thread of yours disappears soon, whether with assistance or naturally.

It's just the dissolvable stitches poking out. You can either go to the doctor and he will snip it off for you or you can sanitize some scissors or nail clippers and snip it off to the skin. You could also just leave it alone and it will go away on its own, but mine bugged me till I just snipped it off.

I pulled gently on mine, got it out and had no problems. This is normal :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
