Is it possible to loose 170lbs with the sleeve?

Even though they cut off the hunger hormone you still get hungry? How many meals and s acid a day do you have? @ fiddleman

This is kind of a myth. Some people never experience hunger again, but for many it comes back in time that's why it's so important to take advantage of the "honeymoon" phase.

Its is very possible depending on if you have changed your old habits and are getting the Water in and excercise. I was 322 at my highest and today at 10 weeks post op I am 263! I go to the gym 3-5 days a week doing some toning and cardio and couch to 5 k. And I didnt do the gym til week 5, so you can! Be your own cheer leader and hold yourself accountable! Best of luck :)

I am 9.5 months post op and lost 165 total..34 to goal weight. Yes it is possible

I'm almost 9 months out and have lost 136lbs! Only 12 more to reach my goal of weighing 170. I'm sure I can do it by my 1 year anniversary. If I lose more then that I will be happy but I think being realistic about my weight has helped me. I have always been overweight so weighing 120 sounds crazy to me. That's why I picked 170. Plus I have lots of loose skin now so I can't imagine how bad I would look if I lost a lot more weight. My main goal is just to be healthy and feel great.

I've lost 143 pounds (50 of that during pre-op diet.). When I get to goal of 160' date=' I will have lost 178 pounds. I think it's doable but it may not happen in under a year. I'm 11 months out & think it will take me until 18 months to get there. But I do not think I will get there by being one of those that "walk around the block" for exercise. Many get to goal that way, but my body is fighting me & I work out hard. (Also, I'm 5'7, & down from a size 30/32 to a medium & size 11/12.)

Set little goal and rock your sleeve, and people have lost well over 200 lbs on the sleeve. I am only 4 weeks out and down 28 lbs.

I was over 300, got down to 263 for surgery, have been stable around 140 do over a year. I think in the long-term sleevers actually will have better numbers than Roux-N-Y people. We don't have as many hormonal drivers for hunger because they actually remove a large portion of the stomach. Plus we don't tend to have as many issues with malabsorption so I think all in all it's a better procedure :-))

I have seen it done plenty of times. I know a fellow sleeve patient that has lost 265lbs' date=' and I have seen many on here as well, so it is possible! But don't set yourself thinking you will lose it all in the first year. Yes, the first 6 months to year is the "honeymoon" phase where you lose the quickest, but it doesn't mean your sleeve expires after a year! It took me 18 months to reach goal, and the person above that I mentioned is almost 3 years post op and still losing slowly here and there. The important thing is to stick to the plan and make permanent changes to your lifestyle. It is very easy to get caught up in the "honeymoon" phase when you can eat almost anything and still lose. I am 2.5 years post-op, and I can tell you, it does not last. If you keep making bad choices, eating lots of slider foods and drinking calories, it can not only stall your weight loss, but you can start gaining. The sleeve is not a cure and it is not magic. It is an amazing tool that you need to work with to help you achieve your goals, but it is for a lifetime, not just the first year.

For me, I had around 80 lbs I wanted to lose. I lost the first 55lbs in the first 6 months, and it took me the next year to lose the next 25lbs. I made changes that I could live with for a lifetime and did not follow a specific diet. Maybe if I would have, I may have lost faster, but I knew it would have been something I could not maintain forever. I actually thought I was done losing about 5-10lbs from my original goal, and I was ok with that. Then, about 4 months later, I started losing again and actually dropped below my original goal. It is important to set a realistic goal for yourself. I see too many people get a specific number in their head that may not be the right number for them. Some achieve it, many don't. I set my goal just withing a normal BMI, but I never actually thought I would even reach it! As for stalls, I just learned to roll with it. If I wasn't gaining, I was happy! Stalls happen to everyone and it is a normal part of losing weight. The more stressed about it you get, the less the chance you will be able to break through it (not that I am perfect and have never freaked about anything, but I have and still am learning!)

My ultimate goal is to lose 276 lbs, I've given myself four years (aprox) to do this. I know it won't just happen. I expect to have to work at it. What good is a goal if it is just given to you? When I was young and thinner I liked to run, I hope to someday be able to run again, at over 380 right now, I'm not going to run more then one or two steps. This is a long term road, and even at age 56 I plan to stay on this path for the long term. I've lost more weight in the last month than I was ever able to dieting and trying to exercise for the last 20 years...go sleeve!

Yes it is, had my op may 2012 I to date have lost 205lbs and counting, its a lot slower now but I have never stalled once and still haven’t stopped now just wayyyyy slower its more tiny tiny loses than big massive ones.
I even lost weight over Christmas and I was naughty on more than one occasion!
Honestly I am utterly crap at going to the gym too I got 2-3 days a week if I have time or can be bothered and I do 10mins of cardio and 30mins of weights to tone myself up all over.
So really other than general walking in daily life I am far from hardcore gym bunny.
The stats you are told seem impossible as a reality as your told a much lower percentage loss than you can active I know I was told I would lose a lot less than I have infact all my consultants are both shocked and pleased with me when I go in and say oh you still haven’t stopped losing weight yet?!
For me honestly its diet the more things you add back into your diet as its only a little bit or once a week or a couple is what counts because that turns into more and more if you are not careful.
I’m not completely crazy and never ever touch anything but healthy good for me things just always remember if I am not careful and I let a once in a while treat become once a week, once every few days, once a day I will undo everything I have worked for.

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation.       Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
