I had no idea this happened either. I researched it after first episode and learned it does happen. Since our stomachs are so small if we eat certain things, especially sugar for me, it dumps into small intestine too fast causing chain reaction.

It is a fairly minor inconvenience to pay for the benefits of the sleeve. It also forces you to eat low sugar / low fat and slower. For me, I succinctly rember it occurring after eating some ham from a diner that was too fatty at month 2. It caused about 30 minutes of "why did I eat that ham." However, it is easy to trigger also a related issue with the vagus nerve if you overeat or eat too fast. For me, this forced me to eat slower when getting used to dense Proteins. However, eating slow is something I need to continue to work on even if there are no longer negative physical reactions from eating too fast.

I didn't think so either.

It's been my understanding that it is the exception rather than the rule... But still possible.

I've experienced this a couple times too. At first I figured death was imminent, but then determined that it was what I ate and how fast I ate it. I've avoided those things since then. I didn't enjoy that feeling at all.

I know what you mean. I thought for sure something was really wrong and I was going to die! It seemed to only last about 20 minutes or so but that was the longest 20 minutes of my life!

I learned that I am extremely sensitive to sugar now, and if I have something with too much sugar this happens. It scared the heck out of me the first time it happened.

I'm so confused....I thought sleevers weren't suppose to have dumping? Now I'm getting scared again!

Yes sleevers can def experience dumping as well its more common in gastric rny but we have to be careful as well!

I have actually had this happen to me, 3 times already. I am 5 weeks out. I get nauseous, heart races, severe abdominal pains. BUT my problem is that I don't go that often. It is scary, especially since I am going back to work next week.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
