Birth control AFTER surgery...

Recommended Posts

So I went to my doctors yesterday and got on the subject of birth control. I originally started taking birth control because I have PCOS and thought it would control my symptoms and horrible headaches. Turns out it hasnt fixed my headaches and according to my doctor birth control is probably what is making my headaches WORSE. (JOY)..Im debating on after getting my surgery if I should go off of my birth control ( Ive been on it for over 2 years) Maybe it'll be good for my body? Im just worried about possibly gaining weight from the pill after being off of it for 2 months and getting back on ,. Also I never had a regular period until I went on BC cause Im over weight, but I wonder if my body will equal itself out from me losing weight gradually with the sleeve...then I worry about becoming extremely "fertile" (OH MY LANTA!!) That would be horrible haha...Is there any ladies out there who decided to stop taking the pill after the sleeve and had good results or vise versa?! Thanks gals ;)

Just don't get pregnant after having the surgery if you are not trying! It does happen! LOL

I still take the pill, but am interested in what others experiences are with this too :)

I had to go off the pill because it made me *batshitcrazy*... and yes, I tried about 5 different ones. The hormones just made me so mean and I'm normally a "nice" person. Ha!

And I don't know if you are aware or not, but being on the pill does not make you ovulate... so you aren't having a "real" period anyway. Since you aren't ovulating, you aren't building up "cushion" in your uterus which is then shed through having a period normally. So I never really understood why they recommend you go on BCP if you aren't having periods...because it's just making you have a "false" one anyway. *headscratch*

It's been condom usage over in this household.... 1 year..so far so good (maybe I should buy stock in latex). Sorry, I'm really no help towards your original question about going on/off the pill after surgery..ha. But yeah...don't get pregnant!! ha!

Congrats on your engagement though!!!!

My doctor actually recommended getting an IUD. He said that they have been finding that BC pills aren't as effective after sleeve surgery. I didn't because i had Mirena and had it removed a few years ago and had some complications from it, so i don' think I'll ever get an IUD again, unless I'm 100% done with kids. I still take the pill, and i figure if i do get prego even while taking it, then i guess it was meant to be!

I'm paranoid about birth control, and my doctor said to make sure you don't get pregnant after the sleeve, use two forms! So, we use my IUD plus condoms, just to be safe. I don't want to get pregnant right now and loose the initial window!

Yeah Im totally not getting an IUD put in thats why I wanted advice about the pill after surgery. Regardless I would still use two forms of protection (condoms/the pill) but Im just concerned about the gaining weight with the pill still idk what to do. I feel as if I should get off the pill and try it and see how my body reacts to it and be Extremely careful Im just not sure... hope someone see's this who's been there done that!

I don't trust the absorption issues post op with the pill. I got an IUD! Best decision for me.

Post op you have to crush your pills and in the beginning stages of healing I wouldn't trust that your stomach is absorbing everything the way it used to. The other problem is that birth control pills increase your risk of a blood clot. I didn't want anything to put me more at risk for that either.

My dr makes her patients stop any kind of hormone pills, birth control and estrogen/progesterone a few weeks before surgery. I think also because they cause blood clots. I used to take birth control because of my PCOS but have not resumed after surgery because I now have a period on my own. My husband is fixed so I don't have to worry about getting preggers.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
