In need of some dinner ideas

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 months post-op as of yesterday! I want to stay away from starches, but I'm also completely sick of eating either fish or Beans for dinner. So sick of both! Any ideas/recipes for dinner are very welcomed. I'm also wondering if anyone ate regular Cereal around this time like honey bunches of oats because bran just seems too gross.

How about shrimp, scallops, crabs, or even lobster? How about chicken or turkey?

I tried a little bit of chicken recently and it didn't hurt I'm just wondering how to do it healthy. As for turkey, I'm wondering if you're able to buy some turkey and not have it be the processed kind of the huge butterball for thanksgiving kind. haha

Check out the recipes thread...there's lots of great ideas. I buy ground turkey and make chili with it or I cook it with cubed tofu using curry.

I have bought the deli kind of turkey (lunch meat) and chicken breast (boars head). I usually have this for lunch tho, no bread just the meat about 3 oz and it fills me up.. For dinner I have, plain breast of chicken, with veggies, or turkey chili. I make a bit pot of the chili on weekends and it lasts me all week. Or a turkey patty with veggies. Also do fish some nights, but as you, I was getting tired of it.. So now I am on the turkey chili, and have been loving it..

I boil a chicken and then shed the meat of and do things like top a salad with it or make chicken salad also use the shredded chicken with burrito spices and a little cheese on top..

Oh and here's my chili recipe (just made it last night) :)

I make an easy chili for my family:

1pound ground turkey

1 red bell pepper chopped

1 green bell pepper chopped

1onion chopped

I small can Tomato paste

1 can diced tomatoes

2 cans black Beans

1 can chicken stock

a handful of chili powder to taste And garlic powder, salt, pepper..or if I'm feeling even more lazy I just use a packet of chili spices and disregard the directions on it! Brown the turkey in a big pot Dump the rest in and cook until peppers are tender

Not sure if you have a costco nearby but you can get their preformed turkey burgers there. They are really good, and have 35gms of Protein. I grilled one tonight on the grill and had about a 1/2 cup of fresh greens and a couple of strawberries. Really good, really filling I could only eat half but have the rest for lunch tomorrow. If you have a slow cooker, there are tons of good, healthy recipes out there. I make a couple of meals a week in the pot, eazypeazy.

I cook a lot of fish, shellfish, chicken and meals with ground turkey. I have a small amount of veggies with it, or I top a small salad with the shellfish or chicken. I just add a potato or rice or noodle for my husband to eat. Last night I made a roasted pork loin, and I had it with some roasted squash. I always make sure I have a 'dipping sauce' for myself made with Greek yogurt and seasonings. I find it helpful to dip my small bites of Protein in the sauce - makes it moist and easier to eat for me.

I also buy chicken meatballs at Trader Joe's (they're tasty, and easy to heat up) I still can't eat beef - just won't go down so I will pop 4 TJ meatballs in the microwave and I'll eat those when I cook beef for my DH. I've made chicken, broccoli, & ziti for him, and I only eat the chicken & broccoli. We live in a seaside town - a little fishing village (Marblehead, MA) so we do eat a lot of fish. Shrimp and crablegs and lobster are easy to eat and delicious to boot!

Except for the carbs for me, I feel like I cook & eat a lot of the same stuff I cooked prior to surgery. I haven't had, potatoes, Pasta, rice, or bread since the surgery. And for a former carb-a-holic I don't miss any of it one bit.

I too love the recipes on theworldaccordingtoeggface blog and will check out emily bites as mentioned above.

Good luck!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
