BIG FAT PEOPLE!

Recommended Posts

Saw two bakeries today that have gone out of business. Maybe people are starting to wise up?

We can only hope! Now if only the fast food joints that are high fat, sugar, and salt would follow suite.....it would be a miracle....I find myself craving sugar and my fix is reaching for some whip cream....:( How desperate can I get? :(

I didn't think I was a food addict before surgery. After surgery, I started dreaming of hitting buffets...I realized I am a food addict. Thankfully my sleeve keeps me in check.

I agree with your original post...you don't get to the point of needing WLS by having a strong dislike of food. At least I didn't.

I'm glad to come here today and read these replies! Yes we all have daily struggles with this And coming here to vent seek support or ask advice is always helpful to get me through the day!

I have been in therapy for years about this and have read many books on the reasons behind my addictions (great suggestions by the way misty)

Even with all the learning, growing and retraining I'm doing I still fall occasionally.

And I hit the ground pretty hard..

Yesterday was one of those days.

The funny thing is I had even lost weight which is like a miracle around here for me. But that doesn't stop the thoughts sometimes.

It's the constant obsessive thoughts that can ruin the day.

I'm hoping for a much better time of it today.

Hi Laura

this is the second time I've written this so I too will have to condense it.....

I was just wondering what was going on for you yesturday that triggered you to have obsessive thoughts about wanting to have food? I have a strong intuition that emotions play a big part in it. I know that yesterday there was a few different posts where there was a lot of conflict going on and people really were not that respect at times. Now when I have a day where there's some conflict, I had a tendency to get Migraines. I also would get a Migraine when I was extremely ecstatic about something too. This I figured out had to do with my emotions too. So does this resignate with you? I hope your feeling better today. I also have days when I obsess over food too. It's my comfort food and I just can's resist it on some days. Those dam Quest bars keep calling my name too.....Frustrating than all get out. :P

I think those crazy threads did not help! I need to learn how to extricate myself from these "gone of the rail" crazy threads...

I think coming down from a very whirlwind type vacation, and eating to many trigger foods really set my addictive tendencies off.

I really had a hard time getting back into the swing of things. Big fat Laura is always going to be underneath scratching to get out I think!

Oh and I think I'm going to buy stock in those Quest bars! Everyday they hook another person! :P

Yep I've been back three days and the beast is still rearing its ugly head!

OMG I might have to wire my mouth shut for a few days! The good news is I've almost eaten all of the trail mix that had been haunting me 0_o

Time to throw that pesky trail mix in the trash.... Oh better yet, why not just go outside and bury them in the dirt. Brush your hands together and say to yourself, done, no more trail mix! Walk away and be proud of yourself. Oh you don't have to do this in real time, you can do this in your head. It's like a food funeral for real...... :P Oh I should put those Quest bars in there too.....

I swear I think there is only a handful left! Ok wait!....

Alright I'm back, threw those buggers out (I was right it was just a handful left in the bag)

But it's a handful of deliciousness that won't make it to my mouth! :D

Good Job! Now when ever you think of them, think of evilness coming from the bag.....

Pure evilness! That deliciousness is worth at 2 lbs you've worked so hard to get rid of.....

So proud of you. That made me break out in a sweat.....LOL :P

Ditto for me!

I find that if I don't start eating' date=' I can go for most of the day, but once I start, I can't stop, especially if it's something like Pasta or bread. That's kind of the definition of addicted, isn't it? It has also led to a kind of a fear of eating (feeling like I won't stop), which makes it hard to do the multiple small meals thing, thus bringing me to where I am, scheduled for surgery in 4 days![/quote']

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
