Day 5 Pre Op Diet Down 10 lbs but Starving!

Recommended Posts

I have been hungry since I started this pre op diet on Mon. I am day 5 of my 14 day pre op diet. My stomach seems to growl a lot. The Protein Shakes only keep me full about an hour. I am eating 2 Protein shakes( I have 1 with skim milk and the other with fruit) and 1 nutritional bar, 4 oz of lean meat, 1 cup of green vegetables, 2 cups of broth and 2 or 3 sugar free popcicles. This adds up to 800 calories. I am supposed to have between 700 and 900 calories. The only way not to feel hungry is to keep eating. I am drinking more than 64 oz of Water but water doesn't seem to fill me up at all. Since I have lost 10 lbs in 4 days, I think I may not be eating enough. Next week I am supposed to have 5 protein shakes a day which is 700 calories. It will get up to 900 calories if I add skim milk or fruit. I guess my question is: Are any of you this hungry on your pre op diet?

How about using skim milk plus? The added Protein may fill you more and last longer!

Good Luck you can do this!

take away all fruit and milk, it has carbs. Once your body hits ketosis you won't be hungry after day 3, your breath will stink and you will have a metallic taste in your mouth but your body will be burning pure fat! Good Luck, you will make it.

I just started my pre-op yesterday. I have a feeling I will be a very grumpy girl soon! I get to have a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch, then a salad with Protein for dinner... I also feel as though i am "mourning" food because I know I won't enjoy eating anymore. Which I guess is the point, right?

Thanks for your comments. I do think I need more Protein. I am not sure if I am in ketosis if I feel so hungry and my stomach growls. I just made a Protein Shake and added ice. It gave me more volume. Maybe this will keep me full longer. I don't really feel grumpy as I am so excited about my surgery. I am going to do whatever it takes to be successful. I have read all these success stories and I want to be one too! I have a really good attitude. I just hope I can keep it.

I think I figured out why I felt so hungry. It wasn't hunger. It was because I took my Vitamin on an empty stomach. It wasn't hunger but an upset stomach. I am supposed to take them at lunch but was taking my pill as I was making my lunch (protein drink). The vitamin tastes like smarties so I wanted to enjoy it like a piece of candysince I can't have candy. Any way, today I took it when I was almost done with my shake and now my stomach doesn't feel hungry or hurt. I finally feel ok. Down 11 lbs today so I guess this is worth it for me and my liver. I hope everyone else on their pre op diet is hanging in there. 9 more days until I get sleeved!

I just started my preop today and I am starving. I can only have 3 Protein Shakes and 64 oz of Water for the next 3 weeks. I am not a happy girl!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
