How much time should I take off?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is April 9th yayyyyy! I have a sit down job, I wanted to ask how much time should I take off from work. Is two weeks to little. If you have already had your surgery, how much time did you take off?

I am a nurse and work in the ER/PACU so I decided to take 6 weeks off. Since you have a sit down job you may not need this much time off. The best way to do it is ask for 3-4 weeks and if you can go back sooner, it's a win win. Also ask your Dr what are the average length of time, most of his/her patients tend to be off work. This may be better to assist you with the time off you need. Congrats on your surgery!!

I got approved for 4 weeks. I had thought I'd be able to go back after a week - but I was sadly mistaken. 6 days post-op today and I'm finally starting to feel human, but no way I could go back to work yet. I have a mostly sit-down job though. I'm hoping to go back next week (2 weeks).

How is it going with the retun to work just1girl? I work as a physical therapist and am not sure if 4 weeks will be enough time.

I haven't gone back yet, and I am glad I haven't. I have been having hydration issues and almost passed out Saturday. I am not scheduled to go back until the 2nd week of April. With you being in PT, you should give yourself the max amount of time. You don't want to go back too soon, then have to take off more time. When are you having surgery?

I am waiting on approval now. I hope to go by mid may. I may try for 6 weeks out.

I have an office sit down job and I took two weeks off. Today was my first day back and it went well. No issues.

I have a desk job i took one week and one day off. But everyone is different with their recovery. I would tell your employer two weeks and come back early if you feel well enough.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
