slipped band

Recommended Posts

I am only about 4 weeks out and I am thinking I have slipped:tired

Just a couple days ago I starting having pain in my left side and some heartburn mainly in the evenings. I can eat and drink, no problem. I have been exercising like crazy! I for the most part followed instructions pretty good. I have PB'd once and had some tight enounters but nothing that is a consistant thing. I am not sure the band got to heal properly because the frist 2 days I vomited from the surgery profusely. I am calling to make an appt today with the Dr. I am so bummed I am already having problems!

Is fixing a slip easier than the intial surgery? It should be?? Hopefully they can just position it again and not have to place a whole new.:faint:

Any had this revsion?

Hi dping,

Sorry to hear that you are having probs already. You are probably still healing from your initial surgery, so hang in there. I hope that you find out what is going on with your band because we sure can drive ourselves crazy trying to figure it out ourselves. I would think that just repositioning the band would go easier than replacing the whole band. You have had an excellent weight loss so far....keep up the good work!!!

Hey dping,

That's 18 lbs gone already...That is Awesome!!! I have no idea what the pain in your side could be. I hope that you made your appointment with your doc so they can figure out what is going on. Keep me posted on what they find out. In the meantime, keep up the good work.

Ted12345 - Wow , you woke up on the wrong side of the bed today..the pessimist side. Are you a Lap-Bander? I can't tell by your last thread. Please hurry and get unbanded if you are and if you're not, keep your negative thoughts to yourself. So far the Band has taken me off several medications and prevented me from starting diabetis meds. I also eliminated heart meds and from having to continue taking blood thinners. My Cholesterol is in the perfect/normal range and I have a new outlook on life because of the band. Take a chill pill and relax. Remember that this forum is for people experiencing problems or just want to learn more about being banded. There will be a higher percentage of problem threads due to the way human nature is. Chances are there are many successful band stories that are out enjoying their lives. I have one regret about being banded..that is I wish I could have been banded sooner and not wasted a good portion of my life being a sick, fat bastard. I have been fat 95% of my life and and now half my life or more is over. I am so glad I have been banded. I have given my family a break from worrying about my health.

Banded and glad I am. Down from 352 to 254 (98 pounds) since June 06.

I felt the need to respond I actually agree with Carlos and several of the other repliers in that it is not the patient fault that her band slip. Before I got my band on 2/16 I was very concern about all of the side effects I was reading about on this site. I know everyone experience is different but some of you really seem to have had a hell of a time. On my final preop visit with my Surgeon she notice I was more nervous than she had notice before. I started to explain what my concerns were and why. She explain that yes slips are a possible side effect but it is not the norm. I told her I am starting to feel like it is after visiting this site some have had more than one slip revision procedure. She question the surgeons qualifications and the weight loss center program. My program is hospital base and a Center of Excellence of by the Bariatric Surgery Board. As a nurse this was important to me because it demands that you run program a certain way because of the regulatory issues and have handy your statistics for side effects. Anyone getting any surgery should want to know the surgeons stats. For example my surgeon has done 217 lapbands since 2003 and has had only 1 slip. Now is that a coincendence or skill. I hear many say my doctor is great or I went to Mexico and it was excellent. But when we use these adjectives we should be speaking of skill not personalities. Weight loss is a booming business and many are not qualified and just in it for the money. I just wanted to add my two cents. I know we all are striving for the same result. To live healthier lives for ourselves and our families.

Hi Nursedeeva,

The banding procedure is a fairly new procedure here in southwest VA and eastern TN where I live and all of the surgeons that were offering the surgery were very new at the procedure. I was my doctor's 3rd or 4th banding. It has really taken off here though. I was anxious to get the procedure done and didn't want to wait until they worked all of the bugs out. I was willing to take the risk of complications, which I ended up having. But you know what? I would do it all over again in a heart beat with my 80 some pound weight loss. My health has improved and I feel like a new person. So much energy. It is just amazing!!!

I recently dealt with a slipped band. My symptoms were acid reflux for the first time in my life. I had to sleep sitting up and even then I was up all night with the reflux choking me. I couldn't eat or barely could drink. I ended up having my old band removed and a new one put in. My first surgeon had given me the smallest band that they make. That is why my band slipped I am being told. I am three weeks out of surgery and feeling wonderful. I realize now that I never felt right after having my first band put in. It was too restricting even when I didn't have any fill. I now feel wonderful and am looking forward to many years of sucess with my new band.

Did your insurance give you a hard time about the second surgery, assuming you didn't self pay? I've been wondering what happens in such a situation.

Crystal

Hi Crystal,

My insurance covered my first banding and they covered everything when I had my old band replaced. I can't understand why the insurance companies give everyone such a hard time about getting the band or gastric bypass. They would come out ahead with healthier clients.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
