:o GUESS WHO IS RETIRING???

IT IS OFFICIAL DR. KIRSHENBAUM IS RETIRING!!

HIS RETIREMENT DATE IS OCTOBER 31, 2011.

I know there are a few of you still posting on this site. If anyone would like to send their well wishes to Dr. Kirshenbaum it would be greatly appreciated. I would like to put a scrap book together for him.

Oh my Goodness! That's big news! What is going to happen to his patients? Is there someone set up to see us for fills and issues? I know it's such a good thing for him, but a bad thing for us! Selfish of me, huh? But it's also bad for all of those still out there who need a LapBand! I've been telling anyone and everyone about him! I'm sad!

He is referring his band patients to Dr. Matthew Metz at Parker. He will take over doing the fills and aftercare. His fills are $50.00. Guess we have all been lucky paying $25.00 huh??

Yup, we have all been very lucky! do you know if he does fills the way that Tom and Dr. K do them? My friend has a doctor who always does them with ultrasound and then has her drink the barium - he fills the band the way he wants it filled. She has a 10ml band - got it Feb - and has 7mls in it already and has lost 30% of her excess weight. Last fill, she had to have an unfill because she was too tight and throwing up with every meal.

I've heard good things about Dr. Metz, BUT I am sure he's not Dr K or Tom, so they will be truly missed!

Do we know what is happening with Tom? Will he be practicing with another physician or available at all to get fills from?

Also, will there be some kind of retirement open house or anything that Dr K's patients can attend to show our appreciation?

Well, we know Tom works for another doctor full time. He was only working for Dr K on Thursdays.

I was wondering if there would be an open house also. I'd love if we could have a get together with his LapBand patients. I wouldn't be able to do all the planning and expense, but if others were willing to help, I would be willing to be part of a team to put something together. It wouldn't have to be too elaborate. A reception or something casual, so that we could let him know how much we all appreciated him.

Absolutely! Will do that right away. If it is a surprise, do you want cards, etc sent to your attention? Also, I like Prty's suggestion about a reception and would be willing to help also.

I got my letter in the mail today from Dr. K's office announcing his retirement, so I had to come on and say "hi" to you ladies! It is sad news for his patients, especially local ones of course, but great news for him. I wish I were local and could come to a party!

I am pretty much status quo...trying very hard to get into a regular exercise routine and not having much success. Working part-time from home in the evenings, then taking care of my toddler all day, leaves me scrambling to find time for myself. My weight is about the same, still 25-30 pounds more than I'd like it to be. I'm about five pounds heavier than I was when I got pregnant so I guess that's not too bad, but like many of you I am a food addict and terrified at the possibility of going back to where I was. I'm committed to a 5k next month but at this point it'll probably be more walking than running. It's something, I suppose.

I was recently diagnosed with eczema and it's making my life difficult in a lot of ways. I'm finishing up a three-week course of prednisone which as you no doubt know is not exactly helpful in weight loss. For that and other reasons I'm going to start eliminating foods from my diet in an effort to figure out what triggers my eczema...starting with gluten (I was already tested for celiac but I could be sensitive). So it'll be interesting to see how that impacts my weight loss as well...

Guess that's enough for now. Hope all are well! rolleyes.gif

I'm in! My schedule is different each week. If we plan ahead of time, I can work around it. I have a wedding on the 15th of October and an assigned weekend that month, but we can figure it out. Just let me know what I can do!

My care was taken over by Dr Metz when the person who maimed me..... Er, my surgeon was chased out of the state by the medical board (sorry... feeling a bit out of sorts and bitter today!!! )

Anyway, Dr Metz is a very nice guy. I had complete confidence in him (even though he looks like he is about 15). His fills are basicallly done by his P.A. Allison. She is just great!!! She is good, efficient and a really nice person. You guys will all like her. One other thing that I liked was that it was never a long wait to get in for a fill. I'm not sure if this will change, since he is taking on other doctors patients, as well as doing work with Kaiser. I am hoping that I will be assigned to him when I finally colme up on the list for bypass.

I would love to come to some kind of open house/reception. Especially if it's towards the end of October. My schedule will be much more open then. If you guys need help planning, let me know.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
