Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Hi girls!

I had a GREAT weekend! Saturday I spent the night at the Denver Zoo.. it was a program called "Bunk with the Beasts" and my mom and I took my neice and nephew. It was a lot of fun! Sunday morning I had to get up super early and leave the zoo because I was in the Pride Parade along with my fellow Denver Roller Dolls!. I have never experienced Pride before and it was sooooooooo much fun! I highly recommend checking it out next year. We had about 6 girls who skated the entire parade and I drove my FIL's litle Tracker with it all decorated. I will attach some pics. We handed out over 750 fliers to our season opener July 20th!

I have been struggling for a couple of weeks with my eating. I think I am too tight and am PB'ing waaaaaaaay too often. I called Dr K's office this morning and am going in to see him Monday afternoon for a small unfill. Anyone else gonna be around then??

Happy Monday!

Pics: I am sitting in the car in the first one, second one I am in the back row in a white tube top (!!!) and baseball cap, and third I am on the right hand side in the white tube top.

OK, this is suckin'! Dr. K said I didn't have to start my low-carb diet until this Friday, but I decided it wouldn't hurt to just start today and get it over with! I can't believe people survive on Atkins' diet of death! I need something crunchy (and Romaine hearts just ain't cuttin' it). Also, I keep hearing that Protein fills you and makes you feel satisfied longer...WHATEVER! I feel like I'm starving! And, believe me, I AM eating! I've had a ton of Water too! I'm very frustrated!

It doesn't help that my kids were being little stinkers most of the day. At a playgroup where we were the only ones there for a while...my kids had their pick of big-wheels, toys, balls, etc. and they had to argue with eachother over who gets what and who was playing with whatever! AAAHHHH!!!! I was actually so exhausted by it all that I fell asleep at the table this afternoon! Things got better this afternoon, but I don't know if I can do another day of it! Maybe there'll be a snowstorm tomorrow?!

Hey, how are you all adding photos to your posts? I have been able to "attach" a file that is a picture, but not have one show up automatically like Drews' and Mal's. What's the secret?

So, you ask yourself, "What the heck does Nome, Alaska look like?" Well, here it is! Nome in May. This is our yard...it's just dirt and rocks, but it HAS greened up on the tundra...I'll try to get another picture that's better!

marcyinak,

Sorry to hear that you are having a hard time with the Atkins diet. Have you tried any of the Atkins bars for something crunchy? I wish I could be more help. I'm sure someone will have some good ideas for you.

You are not alone, we are all here with ya'. You can do this!

I wish I knew how to add a pic to my posts...I have been trying and trying, finally gave up! How did you do that?

When you click "reply" and get the empty box... type your message in and instead of clicking "submit reply" directly under the box, scroll a bit more until you see " additional options". In that box you will see "attach files" click "manage attachements" and pick whatever pic from your puter that you want to post. Another window will open for you to do this. Once it is uploaded close the extra window and you should see your file name listed under the "manage attachements" button. Click "submit reply" and Viola! You are finished!

Now that I've figured out how to add pictures...now, don't get worried, I don't take pictures all the time! Here are some Musk Ox that my husband found along the road last month. They are about 3 miles from town and you can see Nome in the background with the Bering Sea just beyond. Then there's my Stormy checking out our baby chicks...she's so cute!

Mal - to make your pictures smaller: open your picture on your computer...in your picture managing software (mine has an option at the top "picture" and it drops down to say "compress") you should have a compress option, then compress it for a web page size (it'll usually gives you that option), then Save As - I usually save it under the same name with "comp" right after it. It will upload then. Now, there's another, more intensive way to do it if you don't have that option on your software...try this first.

Mal, et. al. - can't try any of the actual Atkins' stuff because they don't sell it here...bummer, but that's ok, I can't stand cream and butter and I know that's what a lot of the Atkins shakes are (my parents are die-hard Atkins enthusiasts). I'm doing better today...I slept in and that kept me from thinking about food....I've never felt this way on a diet before...maybe it's the fact that I'm having surgery in 2 weeks? Hmm....

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
