Hey everybody.

Mal, I'm so impressed that you're running 5Ks. I seriously can't imagine running 50 feet. And I'm not kidding.

Dee, you are such a stud! I can't believe how much self-discipline you have to work out so much and eat right all the time. You go girl!!!

Deb, have a great time at your property. Have a drink or two for me.

Lotza', I'm so sorry you have that stupid flu. Several of my students have it right now. Luckily, they seem to get over it pretty easily . . . hopefully you will as well. And, on the bright side, now you'll have immunity when the scarier version of it evolves in the fall and winter. Oh, and my students have all lost weight while they were sick!

my hamstring is slowly getting better, but sitting is a bitch. hence, sitting all day waiting to be called for a jury, sitting nwith mom for 7+ hours during chemo, or nsimply sitting in movie ntheater can be a bitch. we are headed for star trek right now. also discovered i hurt achilles tendon on opposite foot. oh, well...

dee, that is quite the regimen you have going. no wonder u have done so well at losing.

lotza, sorry to hear about your health. stay hydrated.

Hi guys...

I had my surgery with Dr. K (A Gem)....can I ask a question?.... I had it on 6/12. Have not lost much weight at all but am staying focused on "Healing" not losing (although I feel I have NO restriction either....It is hard NOT to eat too much! My fill is not until July 13th and they said no sooner  My question is...does Dr. K fill the band at all when he puts it in? I thought I remembered him saying he does "a little"...what might that "little" be? Thanks and please feel free to tell me that my disgusting appetite will magically disappear once this band is tightened! I feel so weak and lame at present.

Thanks!

Jill

I wish you lived with me too Mal! I'm so damned lonely! ARGH! That's why it's easy to be a workout girl, I have nothing else to do! WHICH is good! I guess. Actually, I have become so selfish! I'm perfect at home because I have purged all the bad food from my house! I have absolutely not one good here! So when a craving hits or a head hunger is there, I don't have a choice to eat anything but some hummus! OR a banana! BUT with that being sad, I am really not good when I go out to a resturant! I want to eat it all! Sometimes, I'm strong and other times I'm not! I'm a food addict! I'll always be!

My daughter loves it there! She's doing really well. They diagnosed her with dyslexia and helping her in areas where she needs it. I'm so excited to see her. We're going to the Stature of Liberty for the 4th of July.

I'm like you Mini! I want to run so badly! The other night at the pool after swimming my laps, I decided I'm going to try running! In the pool! So I did! AND I could! It was freedom!

I'm not perfect all of the time, only most of the time.

Oooh!! Hoping for the weight loss!!! At least there might be something good about it.

Poor Deb! I am so sorry you're still dealing with your hamstring and now your achilles tendon. I've been down that achilles tendon road! It sucks! I will be partially disabled for the rest of my life because of my ruptured achilles tendon. I hope yours heals soon! What did the doctor say about your hamstring?

Jill, you're smart. This isn't a time to lose weight, it's a time to heal and allow your band to set around your tummy properly. If you eat your 1 cup to 1.5 cup of food and then get hungry sooner than 4 hours - just eat again. It's better to eat several smaller meals than a few larger meals. Eating a few larger meals will not be good for your band or your stomach. Make better choices, i.e. fruit, Protein Shakes, soft Proteins - cottage cheese - things that are on your eating plan that will keep you satiated longer. I gained after surgery due to Fluid retention, and then again when I started eating solids. I think most of us gained. Don't worry, it will get better. Once you start getting some restriction, you'll be satiated longer. Sometimes it does take a few fills to reach that sweet spot.

I do know that the bands come with a little saline in them, they are primed with a little. Hang in there!

Well, put me down as even this week.

I just got home from the Instacare, and I have the H1N1 virus, or Swine Flu. It is not pleasant. I just feel all around crappy. But I have no other medical conditions, so I should get through just fine. Although, it is possible that I have strep too, they are sending my sample for cultures since half of my family has it. Wouldn't it just be great to have both at the same time. I think I got the swine flu because I was pretty much saying poo poo you swine flu. Now I kinda feel like this. Oh well, I am going on the meds so I should be feeling somewhat better soon.

Oh no! the Swine Flu! That's horrible! I am so sorry!

Hi Jill,

What Dr. K. told me is that when he puts the band into place, he partially fills it to make sure there are no leaks in it. He then takes the saline out. But, he said there are usually a few drops that get left behind. He does not want to leave significant Fluid in it because of the normal swelling and healing that needs to take place. I remember starting to feel hungry during the second- third week following surgery. Try to be patient and drink lots of fluids (except for one hour after you eat). Dr. K. will usually do your first fill about 4 - 6 weeks after surgery. But he goes slowly so your body can adapt. Don't feel weak or lame - you took the initiative to have this surgery so you can have an ally. What you are experiencing is normal, and is probably the hardest part of the lapband process. Hang in there!

Mary

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
