Accurate BMI site?

Recommended Posts

I'm 5'2" 262 pounds and one site says its a BMI of 47 ...I just find it hard to believe my BMI is that high...when I look in the mirror I don't see myself that huge.

Hiya,

I assume you meant 262 pounds. For that height the BMI is 47.95 by my calculations.

They're all just numbers at the end of the day. There's nothing that says you should feel at certain way at any given BMI. There are tons of people who are at a BMI of 25 - 30 and feel fabulous at that weight and for them they're at goal. The BMI nazi's would say they're overweight, which is rubbish if they're healthy and happy.

You've obviously decided you want to lose weight which is great. Good luck on your journey :)

http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ that's the site I use. We use it at work too. It's the National Health Institute site.

My BMI started at 60 and is now in the 50s... don't sweat it. You're on track to bring it down, and that's what matters! :)

It worked for me!!! I'm so close to being just "overweight" instead of "obese"

It's so close I could taste it!!

"Taste it" hehehe I'd like to taste an Oreo right now :P

Just downloaded the app for that BMI site. Happy to report my BMI went from 49 to 43.6 bc of a 30 lb weightloss. Still classified as obese but the number is going down. Yay!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
