4 months post-op diet help

Recommended Posts

I'm a few days away from being 4 months post-op and I think I'm doing pretty well. I'm just seriously lacking in the food variety department. I could count the things I only eat on one hand: Beans, cat fish, chobani, weight watchers string cheese, and egg beaters (egg substitute). Wow I really was able to count them all on one hand! haha..so I'm in need of some guidance as to what kind of things to eat so I could mix things up a bit because I am sick of always eating either beans of cat fish for dinner. I know that Kaiser guidelines said I could have ground beef by now but I am really afraid of not losing my weight so I'm staying away from the heavy meats. Also, has anyone else been able to eat a little more than they did initially after the surgery? I'm able to eat a little more than like a month after the surgery I just worry it's because I'm stretching out my stomach. My biggest fear has become stretching out my stomach. Anyone else feel this way?

Are you able to tolerate cottage cheese? I have Kaiser too, and they say that after 4 months, you should be back on the pre-op diet. What about scrambled eggs? Omelettes? Hard boiled? (I know, I am sick of eggs too. My surgery is next Wed). tuna salad? Are you able to tolerate chicken?

By one month out, my doctor said I could eat anything that was nutritious--not to mean that you should countermand your doctor's orders, but to let you know you shouldn't be afraid to eat other foods such as those jazzy suggests.

I've tried chicken and it's completely fine with me. I never feel sick or have any pain from it. I want to do tuna salad which I love, but my whole issue lies in the mayo part of it because I want to stay away from the high fatty foods completely. I am so over eggs. haha I think that was the first solid-ish food I ate and I'm sick of it now. haha I have actually never tried cottage cheese before even bore the surgery. I might try it now to see how my stomach reacts to it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
