I was sleeved on the 18th and am still in my Clear Liquids diet. I make sure to get my 70g of Protein a day but struggling with the 64 oz of Water. I have been having severe headaches and has pain. I am wondering if my jaw hurts from not chewing? Has anybody else felt this? I'm sure the headaches are from detoxing off everything, I was a low BMI and did not have to do a pre-op diet. I feel like I can't wait to have more substance and that this month might just be the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with! I though my husband would be more supportive when it comes to meal times, but so far I have been expected to cook every meal, which in turn brings me to tears and down right pisses me off! Don't get me wrong, I love to cook and take care of my family, but I also love to eat! Nothing like standing over the stove frying chicken for an hour, knowing you won't be eating it! Or watching everyone enjoy a family meal while your sitting there with your shake! How are others getting through this time? I understand I made a choice for myself and that this is just the way it is, but damn I didn't think my head would mess with me this bad.

The first two to three weeks are really hard. You may be coming off caffeine or just adjusting to how little food you are taking in.I had a few headaches in the beginning. I do not think the classes and doctors really prepare you for what you are in for mentally, especially when you get to the puree stage and how much your tastes will change after surgery it was very hard for me to figure out what I can eat. For the first week or two I actually removed myself from the table and that helped. I am not judging, but it sounds like your husband needs to step up and cook his own dinner. I just recently went back to cooking for the family and is a change. You will have to go with your family at some point and watch them eat while you are drinking liquids. I know it is hard, but you can do it. In the second week I thought to myself what have I done, when I got to the mushie stage I felt like I could eat somewhat normal again. It takes time and it is a process that we all must walk through. In the solid food stage you will eat two or three bites and you will be full. One good thing is that you will save a lot of money on food. Hang in there and know that you can do this. It is not an easy process, but it will be worth it in the end.

That's what I'm freaked out about the liquid diet pre-op. I still have to cook for my family but my husband is such a saint, he said they can just have sandwiches. How can I do that to my kids? But I may get some frozen type foods that my teen son can make for the family. My husband is a saint but he just learned how to use the toaster last year (seriously).

I want to wish you the best of luck. Don't feel alone as we're all in this together, especially those of us that have families that depend on us to cook for them. :(

Sorry to hear how badly you are feeling...clear liquids/full liquids are so awful, but you just have to take it one day at a time. Are you getting in all of your fluids and Protein? could you be going thru caffeine withdrawal? If you are tense, you may be clenching your jaw (even at night), which could cause headaches. you could ask your surgeon if it would be ok to take a little Tylenol.

I definitely wouldn't do labor-intensive meals if you feel that you need to cook for your family. Can you make them some casseroles or meals in the crockpot? What about frozen Stouffers-type meals?

Also, I would go do something else that you enjoy while they eat--maybe a good time to have the remote control to yourself! Or take a nap or get on the VST board.

Hang in there--it will get much better. And you should see some great losses during this time, which will help bring you comfort! :)

Hang in there Rachel every day gets better. It s difficult in the beginning. I cried in the 2nd week. I mourned my favorite food. My DH even annoyed me too at meal time. I was Moody. But that feeling has faded I will soon be 4 weeks out and I look forward to cooking for my family and myself. I don't crave their food either.

I would say what you are experiencing is normal. Keep up the hard work that you are putting in because hard work pays off. Meaning getting in your fluids and Protein Shakes.< /p>

At 3 weeks out I treated myself to some pretty nail polish. Maybe treat yourself.

Congrats on your surgery.

Thanks everyone! Yes they are great ideas. I did put dinner in the crock pot today! And plan to do so again tomorrow. I have a member ship to the gym so I think that while everyone is having their dinner, I will use that time to walk for an hour. Plus it gets me away for a while. I am going to try some baby Tylenol and see how that works out for my headache. On the bright side my pants are falling off of me today and my belt is of no help! Lol! And I am down about 15lbs in just a weeks time. I also can't wait to start cooking for myself. I had a friend who had a bypass a few years ago and she told me to get a diabetic cookbook! I have been looking at some recipes on Pinterest as well. I know that I won't be able to consume a whole lot, but I am excited for that first supper:).

Also, it doesn't help that I quit smoking a month prior to surgery like suggested, and since I have been home I have been smoking to comfort my self. :( Still refusing to buy a pack, but have been smoking 3-5 a day.

One of my favorite current websites is bariatricfoodie.com. She does a TON of great recipes that are WLS friendly but look like families would enjoy.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
