I'm starting to feel ok as far as wanting to get up and get out and do something BUT I must say since surgery especially after being home now the smell of anything makes my stomach hurt. I know I'm not getting enough liquids but enough to stay hydrated and out the hospital. Keep me post on your condition. I hope you are feeling a little better :)

I've been to the grocery store! I had to take pain meds when I got back tho. That was 2 days ago. I'm not getting enough liquids either...enough to keep me out of the hospital.. But not what I'm supposed to be getting.

Mine started two days post op, it was due and pretty normal. However my last one was sure heavy and lasted 2-3 days longer then normal.

I have PCOS as well, and I went 9 months without my period prior to surgery. 2 days later, it came! It was really light though. Then the next two months, I bled and bled. It was awful. I wasn't on BC, or doing anything for my PCOS. I'm just hoping weightloss will help with the symptoms and regulating my cycle.

I'm the same as you and experienced the exact same two issues. I freaked out but after posting here and talking to my dr, I realized it wasn't odd. Many have the same experiences.

Your period will be off for a while. Just a heads up!

Good luck!

Found this very interesting!

This is what happens commonly after the Sleeve:)

Like many of you, I have been diagnosed with PCOS as well. Would love to not have that issue anymore! I use the Nuvaring birth control, so I'm hoping I don't have any post op surprises! ugh.

Sorry you are going through this! the PA told us pre-op that most women of menstruating age would get their periods early after surgery, and it happened to me. One good thing was that the pain meds helped my cramps! lol

Also, I had diarrhea that started right before I was discharged, and it lasted a week. The PA said "liquids in, liquids out." I also had a leak test the 2nd day and I'm not sure if it's partly due to the stuff they have you swallow. I was on liquids for a 2nd week but the diarrhea evened out by about the 8th or 9th day.

As far as having trouble wiping (understandable due to swelling and pain from the surgery), I would recommend getting one of those shower heads that you can hook into the top of the shower and use the regular way or that you can take down to spray yourself in targeted areas. I think everyone should get one of those pre-op, actually. So you can clean yourself up as best as you can after using the restroom and then get the rest in the shower. I took a lot of showers that first week or so, and I changed clothes a lot. It helped me feel refreshed too. I also used the wipes they sell for that kind of thing.

Hope you feel better soon!

Can't speak to the menstrual issue, too old! But the pooping... oy. That crap went on until the end of the third week. It stopped just in time for going back to work. It was nasty, frequent, almost uncontrollable. Passed, just like everything else.

Then the Constipation ensued...

I got my period the night of surgery with my nuvaring in. I read somewhere on here that it could have been a reaction to the blood thinner injections I received.

I'm really not kidding or exaggerating.. This is super tmi.. Turn around now if you're easily grossed out!

Sooooo.. Two issues. One is for my fellow lady sleevers... I got sleeved Monday (so I'm 6 days post OP). I started my period Wednesday' date=' 3 weeks early (I'm on birth control to have it once every 3 months). I can't remember the last time I bled this bad. I mean, it's REALLY heavy. Is this normal?

Second TMI question... I can't stop pooping! Every hour-ish I'm running to the potty. I have no idea why! I'm on a liquid diet! And it's a very liquidy #2, but still.. I'm only 6 days post op.. It's REALLY hard for me to turn the necessary ways in order to wipe my bum.. Especially 10 times a day. Any insight or advice?[/quote']

I was due for my period when I had my surgery March 18th and it hasn't started yet. About the pooping yesterday I had a bad bout because I was taking 2 stool softners a day so I won't take any today. Are you drinking milk? You could be lactose intolerant now. I bought Lactaid for after surgery just in case I became lactose intolerant.

Ugh... :-P

It probably is the anticoagulants and even just the stress of surgery.

Cutting down on Protein Shakes (and protein) will lessen the number of bathroom trips. I too suffered from the same "condition". If you are drinking canned or boxed Protein shakes, try replacing them with home made shakes. After buying the "Ninja", I tossed the remainder of boxed shakes and have not had that issue since.

It is very normal for women that have surgery to get their period right after.

Also as for the bathroom issues liquid in liquid out it is very normal and will take your body time to adjust. You need to get it tested if it is like Water and you are going 10-15 times a day you could have c diff.

I couldn't tolerate the box Protein Shakes either. Bathroom issues! My soy milk was also giving me issues so I changed to Lactaid and used powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury protein. Issues stopped immediately. A few days ago tried the premier shakes and having much better results.

thankfully I dont have the period issue but this aftermoon I started w/ diarrea...it's why I popped on tonight...hoping to get some reassurance that it's temporary ( I'm on my 5th day after my sleeve surgery) and I'll gratefully take any suggestions! P.S. If by chance your periods don't lighten back up and if your done having children look into uterus ablation once all healed from your sleeve... it makes your period almost nonexistant. good luck and thanks for being so honest and bringing up a subject many of us needed to discuss

I have PCOS and was worried because the nurses at the hospital said that the blood thinner meds they gave me might just make me start my period early but I didn't. :-) they said it happens to many women...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
