Need Energy! And more water!

Recommended Posts

So Thursday was 1 month post op and I'm glad to be down 32lbs!! However, I have low energy. I need some advice on how to get going again. I'm eating 3 meals, Protein first. Taking a chewable women's multiple Vitamin. Trying to sip on Water as much as I can remember. I have a ton of laundry to do today but I can't bring myself to want to do it. Or any other chore today. My 10yr old started her own laundry (awesome)!! Anyway, in general what do you all do to ensure energy? And what is your trick to remember to get in your water. I don't want to get dehydrated. Is it the type of cup? Reminder/Timer? Etc...

I also heard there could be low energy 6-8 weeks after surgery. Any suggestions? Questions welcomed.

It could be that you need more carbs...and you could have low blood sugar. Protein lowers blood sugar and carbs raise blood sugar. Long term, our bodies need the proper balance of the two (along with fat) in order for blood sugar to be stable. Also, not all carbs are created equal....I'm not talking about eating bread, crackers, chips, Pasta, rice, etc.

Once I started really working out (at about 6 weeks post op) I needed the carbs!!!

Water is my biggest issue right now. I'm always fighting to get enough in. What helps for me is to keep a couple of 24oz insulated Polar bottles in the fridge and carry one around wherever I go. Cold water just seems to go down easier so having a ready supply on hand is a big help.

Between month 1 and 2 I felt profoundly tired also.. I always found myself taking a nap in the middle of the day. It does get better as the others said really keep up on the Water treat it as a full time job (because it is) I also like the healthy carb suggestion!

Thanks all!! Stef- are the polar bottles only online or have u seen them in any stores? And having them ready does make it easier than having to go make another bottle. Not that it's difficult, just knowing its there. Laura-ven- thinking of it as a full time job does make me know i have to be more aware. Maybe if I find or make a little Bracelet that jingles to remind me. Nothing to aggravating though. Lol

Bike shops and outdoor stores like REI carry them but you can go to their website (polarbottle.com) and click "Find a Store" at the top of the page to see if anyone near you has them. I just get mine from Amazon.< /p>

Do you take any kind of psych meds or do you suffer from bi polar/ depression/ anxiety? I take two different psych meds for depression and anxiety. My surgeon told me that if would take several months for me to get back to a normal energy level due to the meds and the depression causing chemicals in my brain. My emotional status is perfectly fine. I'm happy and emotionally stable, but I have no energy!!!

Idk if you do or not, but thought this might help.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
