You should be good. I quit taking chewables a month out, other than my Vitamin B.

2 months out, you should be fine. But, of course, since it concerns you, you should contact your PCP.

I was swallowing capsules the day after surgery! I was taking my antibiotcs and my Acid reducer orally because my IV kept blowing through my veins so they removed it and my doctor felt that since I was taking Water so well, that I could handle the capsules.. it's definitely not the norm, but I didn't have much inflammation in my stomach.

My discharge instructions were to take my Vitamins and medications in capsule form.. but to hold off on the Citrical Tablets until I was two weeks out.

I've never stopped taking any type of pill or capsule. My Vitamins and Calcium are chewables because the absorb better but everything else I take is a cap or a pill. Never had a problem.

My nutritionist said I could take capsules in 6-8 weeks after surgery.

I got off chewables almost immediately. They were gross, made my teeth feel aweful. I switched to gummies, and just let them dissolve slowly. It sounds funny but that very last little nugget never seemed to dissolve, so for a few weeks I just spit it out and compensated with another Gummy. Two a day from then on, its been over a year now.

One thing that I think would help alot of us I think is to juice. If you can get in juice that has members of each color family, you are providing your body with a tremendous source of Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, all of it. It is something worth considering. If I knew now what I (thought I knew) then, I would have juiced and added complimentary flavored protien drink from the start.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
