Re: Amish.

Please keep in mind that the Old Order Amish do not carry health insurance or take public assistance. Who can afford to self pay for cancer treatment in the United States?

Absolutely, so a place for that would be perfect for them to get the care they need based on their beliefs and no insurance and could be a choice for anyone with no insurance / no public assistance with a cancer situation, not just Amish, good point!.... But for me as a basic elective-surgery bariatric self pay patient, I have a whole other mindset, I have a choice luckily.

4th floor of Mi Hospital' date=' out of the way and little walking traffic.... The 2nd floor has the operating rooms so more people in and out.... And the dentist and medspa are on this floor. Request the 4th floor, has its own cafe, quiet all night, lights off, nurses quiet, was easy and certainly very highly recommended I even heard 3rd floor was quiet also from several others.

But there is no hospital in the world, ( I work in medical) that is quiet 24/7 because a lot needs to get done, constantly people need to vomit, got to bathroom, walk, get medicines, have vitals taken, different hour surgeries.... And this is at major John Hopkins hospitals, Florida Maternity wards to little hospitals in Mexico, true hospitals are not known for " quiet recovery"..... so anyone who wants a quiet recovery at a hospital has a very big thing coming...I would prefer my hospital to have a little noise so I know things are getting done,.... Just saying! :)

And my only worry about a hospital where a lot of Amish go is that they practice a lot of "waiting to see if it will get better homeopathic, religion medicine" and with something like this I would rather not have my staff have a "waiting to see if god will fix it" mentality , being in medical as a nurse has taught me this, I have worked in medical facilities where Amish has frequented and wait and see is not always proper medicine especially when you realize it's not for you and too late to decide, especially when they speak little english, in an emergency would really scare me!

Not saying anything negative about florence Oasis but keep in mind why those principals are for some people and not for others. Why wouldn't Amish just go to any hospital? Why this one in particular? Many reasons is low cost and because most Amish do not have insurance or take public assistance.

Luckily, I am a self paying patient of an elective surgery who has a choice and don t mind spending a few extra bucks.

Now, Not saying they do not respect religious wishes, not opening up that discussion at all , just pointing out a few concerns from my medical background observation thru the years why some go to one but not another. I would hope any hospital would respect all religions/wishes!

Wherever any of us pick, the best to us all!! Just sharing my experience for those trying to evaluate!

Quick tip...But for peace and quiet recovery.... That's is what the hotel after is for, the Marriott has been heaven!!! Do your surgery same day as you arrive on a AM flight and get it out of the way at whatever hospital you choose.... and then relax for 3 days after at hotel... The best way to recover! Instead of back and forth.

Have a great day!!

I totally understand the point that you are trying to convey about the Amish liking a certain hospital. That was not a determining factor for me to change from MiDoctor. Not that Oasis isn't good but I just haven't seen enough "hard core" proof that MiDoctor is not as good a hospital as Oasis. Maybe I am missing something, or have missed but we all have different opinions on what we like and are all different. I have been talking with SEVERAL ppl that have just left MiDoctor and they didn't have a problem AT ALL with the hospital....same as florence I've heard good things about them too....just trying to find proof that MiDoctor isn't a good hospital, not primarily based on opinion?!?! PLEASE HELP I am having surgery soon and need to decide where I am having my surgery!

I think it will boil down to what feels right for you....myself and others can only share their experiences personally and take what you will from it, we go into this fairly blind... I have posted pictures in detail from my Mi hospital experience of my surroundings while I was there in another post/thread from earlier a few days ago in the self pay Mexico thread..., I hope you can find enough for both places to Make a sound decision for you.....

You will find good and bad for both, silly enough, even just depending on something as basic as just how someone's day is going...

You need to go with what in your gut feels like a sound decision for you!! God bless and I wish you nothing but the very best! Looking forward to hearing about your outcome! Piece of cake, you got this!!

I honestly felt confident in both of them. If I had not been given the choice I would feel at ease knwing I was going to be at Mi doctors. From the pictures it looks really nice. I chose florence cause it was in a more quiet area. It's true you gotta go with what work for you. Either one is a good choice from what I have seen.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
