So today was my very first day of my pre-op diet, and I did exceptionally well... except for the fact that I have not been approved by my insu company & will find out tommorow or the next morning. I called my DRs office and asked when I would be approved and she told me that then said, "Okay so start your pre-op diet tomorrow." and i said,"Um i already started." I was already half way through my day! So with that in mind, I went to work. I work at a really reallllllly good catering hall and as soon as I walk into the kitchen to clock in BOOM! I smell everything.

Sooooo as I go through my night, I develop a headache, I'm cranky as anything and I'm feeling weak. So I asked the chef for my favorite chicken dish, and I ate ALL of it. And after I even got a glass of soda (I haven't had soda for 2 weeks)! So basically, that little thing my doc said,"Start tommorrow..." was in the back of my mind and now I have an excuse to eat. The reason why I'm in this situation!

Anyone else go through this?

I honestly thought the pre op diet would be soooo easy but its freakin' hard!

I'm worried about the same thing. I really don't know how I'm going to get thru the pre-op liquid diet. I'm going to be hungry & I like the feeling of being hungry about as much as the feeling of cutting my right arm off with a butter knife!

Thankfully, your doc did say "tomorrow" so maybe tomorrow you can be more prepared? I don't know how especially since you work for a catering company but I'll still have to cook for my husband & kids, so we'll just have to figure it out. :( I keep trying to tell myself this will all be worth it to me, but who knows till the day I'm only on liquids, how I will react. I may be contacting your chef for a chicken dish too! :D

I'm two weeks post op and I think the pre-op diet has been the worst part of the whole thing. I had to lose 15 lbs in a month before the surgery so I took it seriously and I didn't cheat but by the night before surgery I was a wreck. I went in for my final weigh in and the scale at the doctors office did not match up to my home scale. The little M.A taking my weight said"Oh you've only lost a little over half of what the Dr. was asking for" Now my scales were telling me I had lost 17lbs but of course that was first thing in the morning and nude. She said she'd page the Dr. and let me know if he would cancel. I almost hulked out on her. Instead I got in my car and cried then called my husband and told him if the Dr. postponed I was going to eat a giant cheese burger and eat a sundae. I was a little irrational but that is what happens when you are starving. You gotta feed a big girl or we turn into monsters. He didn't postpone and I'm glad I didn't cheat. You can do this!!!!! It's crazy the difference the surgery makes. I have no hunger pains and I have to make myself eat and drink now instead of being a slave to my appetite. Good luck and keep up the good work!

I would like to address the issue with the MA. I was going to school to be that and what she did was horrible to you!! I could never imagine doing that to my patients. Honestly the doctors scale is a little tricky and that MA might not have gotten the correct numbers! Ugh! I'm sorry it just makes me mad that she upset you like that!

And another thing- If that would have happened to me, I would have reacted exactly the way you did! Lol! I'm like that... I'll say "You know what, I don't even give a sh*t!" and I'll eat everything in sight and regret it later. Thats just me.

I love how you say "you gotta feed a big girl or we turn into monsters" thats the funniest thing because its so true!! Last night when I was at work I was so cranky to everyone it was terrible! See, I can go hours without eating but now that I have to constantly think about the next time I have to eat is so frustrating because I'm 10x hungier! I can't wait to feel the feeling of not being hungry!

LMAO! "I like the feeling of being hungry about as much as the feeling of cutting my right arm off with a butter knife!" -> im in total agreement with this!

Honestly I thought i was SO prepared but you never are prepared as you think! With the exception of yesterday, day 2 is going smoothly and I'm not as hungry as I was! I think you get used to it as you go its just that the first day is rough on your body & mind.

Cooking for others: I made my 2 nephews this morning: bacon, eggs & potatoes. It was a little difficult, but I pictured myself on a beach in a bikini, running! WHATEVER works right?! Hahaha! My chef has an open kitchen and is always taking requests! (I looooove him) He actually said to me today that when I'm ready to start eating solids he'll specially cook for me! Gotta love this man!

Good luck when you start your preop diet! you will be cranky and tired but just look foward to the end result & keep in your mind that you NEED to lose some weight so your surgery will go better! its always nice to get a head start on weight loss :D

There will be **NO** bacon cooking in my house from now on out. In fact, I made Breakfast for dinner a few nights ago as a "see ya" type meal for me & my family! LOL! I'm not suffering alone in this....no way!

I hope I get used to the idea fast that I'm on liquids only. I'm just hoping that they will make me feel full enough that I won't want to cheat & eat food!

Love your idea of picturing yourself on a beach in a bikini ~ running. I'd have to do the same, altho I'd have to be running after Jon Bon Jovi & I'd have to catch him in my day dreams for it to have any affect on me! :D

Your boss/chef sounds like a wonderful person! You're a lucky girl!

I hope I'll be cranky so all will be normal at home :D, this way my family won't know that I have something up my sleeve (pardon the pun), since I'm not planning on telling my kids about the sleeve. Well, I may change my mind just before but don't want them freaking out already. I don't even have a surgery date yet.

I read a lot about women still having to cook for Husbands and kids, I understand the kids but why cant some of these husbands cook for ghemselves and the kids? I told my husband and 13 yrold before my surgery, youre on your own dudes. Give him a can opener and a can of Soup. I eat what I eat and they eat what they eat. Just saying

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
